The riddle of cleaning your helmet sponge

Why oh why does the little helmet sponge disintegrate when you throw it in the wash? Don't they intend for the little f%$kers to get cleaned?

Anyone have a solution better than me getting suturing practice?

I just take mine in the shower.

Get the helmet wet, lather my head up with shampoo, rub the helmet around my head, rinse, good to go.

Hand wash with mild detergent (like woolite).

These work pretty well. They’ll absorb better than anything else I’ve tried and are machine washable and dried. Carry a spare in your pack or pocket for the descents.

Put in the sink with hot water and some borax with laundry sauce. Let it sit for an hour.

/\This. Being lazy, I fill the sink with warm water, briefly rub it with laundry soap then rinse thoroughly. Couple minute process probably. So fresh and so clean.

Yup. I don't take the liner out of the helmet to clean it either.

I got 2 of  those stretchy head beanies from underarmor  to deal with sweat, they work great even riding in the desert, I think they might soak up  any stink

I actually wear my helmet with the liner installed in the sink, so beat that

And all this time I thought you were just a regular dude......

I'm not sure if that makes you hard-core or bizarre? In any case, I'll never read your posts the same again....

Right! I put mine in the laundry and dryer. Makes a hell of a racket in the dryer and I get a little scuffed up in the spin cycle , but me and my helmet are minty fresh after.
