was following this guy on mtbr last year when he started making led's, now he's selling them, seems like a pretty good price. $200 gets you a 2xled 400-450 lumen light head, li-ion battery and charger + cables. Hardly seems worth the effort to make your own.

MR16 50W halogen spot (12V and 14.8V)
MR16 50W halogen flood (12V and 14.8V)

OK, now those two at 14.8V are going to be pretty damn bright.

I was looking into these also, I wonder if anybody on here has some. They certainly look pretty good.

I'll gladly use your lights in a light comparison shoot out.

I have a digital light meter as well.

Results could be posted as footcandle/lux at xx feet.

And a weight weenies spread sheet as well with lux plotted against weight in grams ;)

Seriously though, this will help to give some empirical data.

Well im ready to pull the trigger on a higher end light set so any info you can pass on (thedude) will get rep, karma, and beer in real life. Right now, the HID's seem like more bang for the buck when purchased on line.

yeah, I'm looking for a light for my wife too, I'm interested in seeing how Steve's system works when he gets it.

I'd really like to get another simple Niterider Firestorm hid like I have now but it seems they don't make it any more. I can't figure out why, HID, 4 hours run time, 2.5 hours charge time. That and I could poach it and have 2 hid's when I'm riding without her.

Right now, unless you have the cash to buy some high end LED system, I think Niterider HID is you best value.

Judging by the pricing I'm seeing online, this is about the worst time of the year to be looking for lights.

like others have said above, it doesn't sound that great.

for that price and that many lumens i'd rather buy from a real company that will more likely be around years down the road.

now if it was in the 1k lumen range i'd be all over it.

I would go for that too, most of the NR HID's seem to run about 2.5hours. Was it super expensive? Or are they traiding off some burn time for a smaller Li-on battery? I am posotive nothing about riding baffles me more than light sets. I have a jet halo (12watt) and it always seemed great to me, just not enough burn time…i may shit my self at one of these newer set ups though…

The new NR HID lights with Lithium battery packs have a shorter runtime of about 2.5 hours.

The older NR HID lights used a NiMh battery that, in some packaging, was like two standard halogen battery packs taped together.

The Slick Rock has a 2.5 hour runtime too, but it uses a NiMh battery and also puts out twice as much light (900 lumens).

During the summer there was much better pricing on lights, but now it will costs $300 or more for an older NR HID light, such as the Rage.
