so this is a long travel 29er ??
150mm 29er. They seem to be selling them before they are up on their website.

Oh wow. I stand corrected!
It was wreckommended…
Nicely written up
I especially like the "new bike A" to "old bike B" comparison.
Half the fun of gear for me is experimenting and adding to the knowledge data base. The new input queues up into the "hmm, that's different" category for a good while for me too.
Hot damn that's a beauty of a bike :0
I'm happy to see that you installed a proper shock on the bike.
It's the frame I want but know I can't ride
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

I'd be really curious to hear more feedback on this bike. I found in the past that the further past 140 or 150mm of rear travel the worse and worse the bike would climb.
That with the super slack looking STA make me wonder if it would be just too much bike here on the shore??
Ride, don't slide.
Nice review and nice bike!
Do you feel a big difference regarding head tube angle compared to the Enduro?
On paper it's almost two degrees slacker, right?
For tall riders it must be a revelation.
My 165mm 27.5 is so capable that some trails get boring, on the other hand I love riding it so much that I hesitate to ride my new downhill rig, because it feels so slow and not THAT much more confident.
I'm very curious what specialized comes up with the new E29 :)

I'm running it in the steeper setting. It's only marginally slacker than my E29. So far so good!
I sold my DH bike soon after getting my Enduro, which rode better at most trail speeds and was remarkably better at steep G-outs.
There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.
now fox need to come out with the 29er 40

Good observation. I'm 6'5" with just below avg leg length and when I demo'd the XL I was sitting right where I wanted to be. I prefer a 73-74 deg seat angle and my guess is that the effective STA at my saddle height was around 73. If I was any taller I would have struggled to get my saddle far enough forward.
With my old E29 I struggled because I was too far forward even with the setback on the Command Post. Climbing steep stuff was nice but it hampered my balance and pedaling in singletrack and downhills.
The Wreckoning really is too much bike for me but I loved the fit. I would have ordered The Following already if I knew that it would fit me but effective STA is different and there's no way for me to know if I can get my saddle where I want it (the slight shorter reach will be just fine).

are we sure this doesn't already exist?

27.5 40 that fits a 29er wheel. Maybe travel reduced, but also travel limited or stanchions slid down from the crowns to prevent tire collision under the lower crown.
Strobel won a NW DH race aboard a 40 equipped Wreckoning.
Should've made a green frame to call it the Shreckoning.

That wreckoning is a sexy beast of a bike! Id have looked at that if I hadnt picked up an Sworks E29 in the fall.
Interesting comment above re selling the DH rig after getting the E29. Maybe Im looking for bigger balls with a new bike but on the nasty steep and rough terrain (think some sections of 5th on Cypress), I feel that I could use a slacker bike. Granted, I pedal up BLT to get there so Im not sure how Id do that on a bigger bike than the E29, but I do find Im lacking some confidence on the nastiest sections.
