so, trawling pb's coverage of icebike this morning, and this bike stood out for some reason…

looks like your standard luddite rigid "mountain" bike, right?

'cept its got that loooong front centre going on, 27.5 PLUS wheels, boost 148mm and 110mm hubs…

looks good (just needs suspension fork). it's surprising how right the new longer front/centers feel. jumping on an slightly older, less stretched bike just feels weird now.

Ya I also spotted that bike the other day. Super nice. Would destroy buff trail. I would love to have that for a wknd on Hornby. Maybe add an RS-1…

fork is suspension corrected for 120mm travel :woot:

another nice touch is the ridiculous amount of tire clearance on tap out back, despite what look like reasonably short stays:

i guess the 83mm bb helps with clearance, though q-factor may be a bit wonky. and the bb drop on the frame is substantial - looks like you could run a reasonable 29" wheel/tire back there

Sure glad they decided to correct the fork!

The future is here………..2015-2016 major manufacturer models will be seeing alot of these standards:)

Looks like the future of the hardtail trailbikes.
- Mega traction.
- More standard components compared to fat bikes.
- Faster than fat bikes.
- More comfort than skinny tires.

I love having a XC-ish hardtail as a second bike and I ride mine a lot…but I would replace it by a 27.5+ HT like that in a heart beat (once there will be a decent compatible suspension fork).

Except these guys have gone about it the right way with an 83mm BB. Regardless of the Q-factor issues that will make a lot more difference than Boost 148 BS. 110mm hubs are a load of marketing guff too, a 29" Pike fits a 650b+ just fine.

Are you guys positive it's a 83mm bb? Those are XT cranks, I don't think you can get them in 83mm.

Also notice the chain ring is mounted on the outside of the 2x crank. On a normal chainline this would suck.

They might be those Touring versions that have a slightly longer spindle and removable spacer that enables them to be just compatible?

Agreed regarding the chainline. Another one of the reasons this guff is being pushed is all the fireroad prongs who want to run 36T rings and 'standing on the rear axle' rear centre lengths. If you go 740mm rear centre and a 30T ring there is load of clearance.

The new Stumpjumper will have all this guff so it'll be interesting to see what they do.

Looks like you can make them work though (article is about an older model XT crank):

I thought one of the major points with Boost 148 is that you could still use a 73mm BB shell with just a slight tweak to the chainline.
