I was going to pick up the Dakine tailgate cover (have a F350 truck)

Are there any new versions of this style out on the market that are better than the Dakine pad ?

Cove has one of the "other" brands on sale for 1/2 price or well discounted. I don't remember the brand, just saw a pile of them there on Thursday. Most of them are more or less similar. You just need to get the right size for a full-size. I'd just give them a call.

I had a Softride pad from MEC and IMO it was better padded than the Dakine.

make sure it doesn't rub and scuff the paint, uncommon but possible

i dented a frame on a dakine pad. Mind you i did hit some rail tracks and the bike bounced. I cant remember what company makes it but there is one that has straps to hold the bike snug. seems like it would be a great idea.

A cheap fix to ensure you will not get any dents at all is go to walmart and pick up one of those kids foam water noodles. Use a knife and slice it down one side then just put that on the back of the truck tail gate before you put down the tailgate cover. Will cost you about $5 and will give a ton more protection then just the cover by itself.

the mec pad has some little velcro straps. Also keeps the bike from sliding side to side

I picked up the Dakine pad, it has straps now to hold the bike down.
