Suggestions for a rear DH rim

Came up a little short on a step down and ovalized my new flow ex rim while riding cypress. They were super light and felt great but obviously not up to my hack riding! The front rim should be fine but looking for some suggestions on a tough rim to replace my now elliptical flow ex. Would like to keep it under 600 grams if possible.

I'm 200 pounds so the uber light flow ex is obviously not gonna last me very long…

I would appreciate some input from the collective here.

I found 721's to be tough but prone to pinch flat with the high sidewalls.

Excellent question. Nailed a nice dent into my rear rim (a 729 that is probably 10 years old) on the weekend such that the tire won't seal and so no more tubless for me..

The Mavic EX823s are pretty tough and UST ready to boot.

yeah, they don't get much burlier than an EX823.

i didn't realize that Flow rims were considered so light or light duty. i figured they were the ideal rim for that kinda riding. must have landed pretty bad!

+1 for 823's. I've had the same set for about 4 years on 2 bikes I've ridden hard and they're still going strong (laced with double butted spokes).

I found the 823 to be the only rim that would last for me, but I used to get an obscene amount of flat tires with them. Sometimes three in one day at the bike park running 40psi. I ran them on my trail bike as well and one ride I flatted then fixed it and dumped two full co2 cartridges into a 2.3 tire and pinch flatted again in less than 100m. I'm pretty much 100% sure it's the rims as now I run the light bicycle carbon rims at 2/3 the weight and never get flat tires. As in going from 25+ a season to zero. The new DH version are a lot tougher than what was available a year ago and the even newer hookless ones should be even better and I've got a few rides on one so far and it feels rock solid. A bit more dough than an 823 but at 2/3 the weight and similar lifespan it is worth it to me. The ride quality is far superior as well. No question that 823s are as tough as it gets though.

Thanks for the intel guys. Hey Kram, you got a link for those carbon rims you were referring to? Are those the ones they talk about in the cheap carbon rims thread?

Anyone try the Alex Supra D? Has the Supra D changed over the years?
