so i'm needin some new hoops for the hardtail. i'm 75% decided what i'm puttin on the front, put not sure about the rear. i thought about changing to a 26 but am gonna keep the rear at 24. any thoughts as to a strong (not really worried about weight) rim for the rear of a hardtail.

sun stype mtx. 2wice as strong as a doubletrack yet weighs a few hundred grams less. im surprised mine is still round after how easy the doublewide folded. they r pretty cheap to, but make sure u get the mtx version (welded seam)

Kore Speedhoops.

I've been abusing mine riding urban for 2 and half years, and I havn't had to true the rear once! (Front got somewhat loose spokes… tweaked around a bit, rims still straight though!) Nice narrow profile too…

if you run lower pressure on the speedhoops you can bend the lip on the rim pretty easy. then they crack. thier also a bitch to get a pump on to when you flat and heavy as hell.

Im sure there good for urban though running high PSI

I'd assume either the doubletrack or a mag30?

Arrow wheels are bullet proof……a little expencive and a little on the heavy side, but very strong.

Im running the 26" front and rear, several spills, causing some good nicks and scratches, but the wheels are as true the day I got them……Im very happy with them.

thanks so far guys. i ride pretty aggressively and will bomb cypress almost as fast on the hardtail as i do on the full squish (zed - insert obligatory comment about being slow either way) so i need something that stands up to multiple hits.

mavic 729 and the mag 30 were the usual suspects. doubletrack i always thought was ok and the new mtx is on the list too. never thought about the arrows though so i'll have to look into those. any thoughts on alex rims?

great thread so far - no fucking around

I've been running an Alex DX32 for as long as I can remember. It's quite the hardy piece!

They don't make 24in. 729's by the way…

I think either a Mag 30 or an Arrow DHX would be your best bet.

alex has a triple wall disc only rim that is pretty retardedly strong althought it's name escapes me right now something like dx5zretc… but the supra b is also an awesome rim if you are looking at alex stuff, but personally if you can find one the mavic xy24 rims i have are so good i can't ever see running anything else

always cheap but never free

I banged the crap outta my 24" Doubletrack for 2 seasons - then my hub blew up. Ended up replacing the rear with another doubletrack on XT.
