I banged the crap outta my 24" Doubletrack for 2 seasons - then my hub blew up. Ended up replacing the rear with another doubletrack on XT.

..same, i've ran doubletracks on my p3 for 2 yrs, beat the hell out of them and they haven't let me down yet, and no pussy riding, fast, big and even a little hackish on the landings, rims are straight as the day i bought them (almost)

Some of these already mentioned but:

Doubletrack: Really strong, cheap and easy to find

Kore Speedhoop: Super strong, pain in the ass because I needed to custom order spokes (really short length), valve stem on some tubes isn't long enough

Alex ESD 25: Strongest rim I've had, had a couple instances of sticks/deraileurs going in the spokes after replacing the mangled spokes the rim was still true. Resists pinchflats well, expensive, hard to find.

I'd probably just get a doubletrack.

myster_chron,
The MTX is definately a great rim but how do you figure it is twice as strong as a double track?

personal experince.. maybe it was the builders fault but proally not, took me abotu 2 months to do up a doubletrack to the point where i couldnt mount a tire on it anymore where as my s types have held to the same abuse for over 6 months now… 2 months minus 6 equals -4 wich is abotu 2wice as strong… ( haha im jsut fuckin around here, but both rims where built by the smae guy with the smae tension and the smae spokes.. so jsut on that comparison alone i'd say its pretty reasonable to argue that they r about twice as strong)

alex esd25. 850g's i think with a flat lip so it is harder to pinch flat. incredibly strong.

so for all you guys toutin the doubletracks the question of the day is how much do you weigh. a 200lb rider plus gear (me) is going to be a lot harder on a bike than a 120lb soaking wet rider (maybe you)

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

Double track ….. I had a 24 on the back of my Devo for two plus years ….. I'm 210 and 6'5, and I used to ride quite hard, it never gave me any troubles, and I had a whistler pass for one of those years. Plus they're cheap!! and readily available.

Arrow Dhx but its unessesarily strong for most riders, especially in the front on a hardtail, try there frx. Ive got one on the back of my hardtail and really takes a beating.

haha i have a friend who blew up a complete wheel's worth of spokes on his arrow dhx. (ebverysingle spoke busted in half at once) the only damage to the rim was a hairline fracture… still round and true, but spoke less, i think he has it hangng on the wall now

190lb plus gear - and not the smoothest rider out there. 2 seasons with 20+ days in the WBP, plus NS rides on the off season.

IF you can find one, get yourself a Mavic XY. I've been running mine for 2 years now of heavy street use and lots of trail rides as well. Still going strong with not even a slight wobble to it, and I'm also not a small guy either (200lbs). They're a bitch to find nowadays, but if you can find one go for it.

Mag 30 (on a super 8 mind you) but it's been run for a few years now with two bigger riders - no worries.
