Specialized Status

Kinda surprised these have not be talked about on here that I've seen. 

Anybody have one of these?

I enjoy my mulleted hardtail very much and am a bit of a min-maxer that likes to pedal so the status 140 seems like a pretty interesting "ride-all-of-the-things" bike for the sea to sky, and it clocks in around $1600 for frame and shock.

Since it's 210x52.5 shock and I have a 210x55 topaz and the travel reducers just snap in I could also dial it down to 133mm and possibly up to 147mm.

The 160 also looks cool and apparently can also have the shock travel increased for 174mm of travel or something crazy but it'd be trying to build something that still has some zip.

I've also though about the Pivot switchblade since it's mullet compatible but literally 3x the price which is crazy when you think about it.

The 140 is an intriguing bike...

The weird PB review that lasted all of 1 hr before being pulled for a video re work (there were some issues) doesn't help.

Could easily be converted to full 27.5.

I was pretty keen on the Status until I saw the CS length of 426mm. Considering the rest of the geo, that's going to be a bit too skittish out back for me. Otherwise, I love almost everything about it.

Spec sent them a 140 but PB thought it was a 160 and reviewed like it was, so the whole review was a mess, and who knows how they actually set the bike up. They complained quite a bit about the climbing but I can't help but wonder if they set the sag way too deep, but again who really knows. 

It's too bad because most reviews are from the UK and they don't get the 140 version (which is odd in itself).

last time i looked it up most shops that offered it were in eastern europe

I picked up the 160 a couple of weeks ago and have 7 rides on it so far. It's seen all three local mountains, hitting all types of trails, everything from Bobsled to Shoreplay. You're not going to find many bikes spec'd as well at that price point. It doesn't climb the greatest but I expected that. My times going up GSM are only slightly off my average. The bike felt very natural to me right from the first ride, no real adjustment period at all. I'm coming off a 2015 Range so it feels very stable on high speed stuff, and handles steep tech very well. I've really been enjoying the mullet. I did try the low setting for the first couple of rides but I found it too low and was getting pedal strikes on everything.

interesting branding concept; the anti-specialized bent seems a bit overly contrived, but i'm old & cynical. i assume trends better with the jibby kids this is directed towards.  still, aggressive modern geo for cheap(er) is something we desperately need more of. i like it.
