a very funny bit from a review of the Transition Bandit 29er from this October found on Mtbr, from a die hard DH guy, with no 29er experience.

Now the reality check. Crappy tires are crappy tires. There[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s no magic voodoo involved in a slightly bigger tire patch that makes a crappy tire work better. So when you go to look at buying some burly treads for big wheels and realize that they all look like shit made for bike paths, file that away somewhere in the back of your mind so you can spit a full beer in the face of tire manufacturers who absolutely refuse to make real tires for 29[HTML_REMOVED]#8221; wheeled bikes. That[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s certainly what I did when I got tired of sliding way too far outside of turns on trails I ride weekly and would just flat out end up in the woods because the lame Maxxis Ardent treads have no place in high alpine desert riding after a weak winter. That[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s not the [HTML_REMOVED]#8220;big wheels don[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;t turn[HTML_REMOVED]#8221; phenomenon I was warned about, there[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s just no traction. It[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s dusty here and those tires just suck.

I can't say that it means much if he couldn't find a good 29er tire on the market. There are definitely some meaty, beefy treaded tires out there and have been for a little while. Just because he couldn't find full-on DH tires to put on an AM bike doesn't mean that all 29er tires are bad.

Butchers FTW

Love to try them but Specialized didn't make enough for Canada. I've got some ordered for the 2nd batch.

Checking the NRG catalog shows Maxxis has no real 650B tires either.

Need those Specialized tires ASAP

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

Maxxis has lots of goodies coming down the pipe. Some sooner, some later. Looks like the wait will be worth it. In the meantime, I highly suggest checking out Conti 29 tires with Black Chili compound. These have held up well for riding.

Continental makes a 2.2" and 2.4" Trail King that is expensive, but comes in the Black Chili compound and rocks my world on the dusty, rocky surfaces in SW Utah. It is a pretty badass looking tire, especially in the 29er variety.

Remind again which LBS is carrying Conti 29 tires w/black chili? I'll settle for which CDN distributor is carrying them…#vaporware

I believe I saw quite a huge stack of Conti stuff at Lynn Valley Bikes in NV.
