campagnolo isn't interested in mtn bike parts. i ask them every year.
sram is working on it and they should be out for 2005.
it doesn't make sense for me to make a front derailleur. the investment would be well over a million dollars for design and tooling and i only sell 3000 bikes a year.

I'll live until then. No worries.
pip use a braze on type mount for the front. I hope other companys take note and ban shimano aswell. Im going sram as soon as the shifters are out.

mike, the new sram triggers rock. we've had a few sets for a while now and everyone loves them. the new sram xr derailleurs are really crisp and strong, too.
i had a design meeting/dinner with jed douglas (our sram oem rep) and mark pippin (srams director of engineering) on sunday night. i suggested a bolt on/braze on solution as you've just mentioned.
sram is listening. i also suggested that instead of a metal cage to shift the chain, that they use 3 urathane pulleys. with the pulleys, you'd have a shifting chain tensioner.

Precision Billet used to make front derailleurs.
I wonder what is taking SRAM so long, they bought Sachs who has been making front derailleurs for decades.
Mavic makes (or made) road front derailleurs.
So are you speccing the avid juicys or hayes?
i couldnt agree with u people more!!! im out with shimano….oh, a while back i heard that magura i believe were manufacturing the shimano disk brakes and not themselves….is that BS or what???
:: TEAM MOMENTUM CYCLE :: TROY LEE DESIGNS :: OAKLEY :: HOPEY :: PUMP-X ::
HeyPip, SR Suntour makes front derailleurs too, but only the FD-XCR700 is listed for MTB use.

precision billet quit making any derailleurs years ago, as did paul components, mavic, simplex, hurret, gipiemme and zeus.
currently, only shimano, sun race, falcon and a few other shite taiwanese, chinese and indian companies make oem front derailleurs.
maybe i should design a front derailleur for sun race.
it's taking sram a long time cuz they've just introduced 3 new rear derailleurs, 3 new shifters, 5 new chains and 4 new sprocket sets. they want to do it right so we have to be patient.
shimano is a multi billion dollar company and sram is waaaaay smaller.

well its kind of funny to hear all of you people bashing shimano. they have contributed so much to the industry. without them we would not have the quality components we do today.
SunRace makes front derailleurs.
The highest end one I could find in their 02 catalog is this one.

From their site they are planning to make higher end versions.
Edit: Must learn to refresh page before posting.

oops, you're right, i should have mentioned sr as a company making department store front derailleurs. i don't think that they really don't have the engineering and design horsepower to find a way around shimano's thousands of patents on front derailleurs.

latest word i hear on the Avid "juicy" Hydros is they got recalled back due to poor assembly/quality control at the factory….
apparently Avid is now NOT expecting to release the Hydros until late sept….
