I was on the lifts and started talking to a Shimano tech guy about some of the racers bikes and he brought up how great Schley thinks the Saint stuff is on his Switch.

We're talkin about the brakes. Same stregnth as the hayes with more modulation. The hub, either the same enagagement or just under a CK (apparently ..). The derieleurs are supposed be a big notch up.

He asked what I thought of it all.

"Yea I think it looks good but I dont like the face that it's all Shimano specific, I like to kep my options open"

and hes like

"well why would you wanna ride anything BUT shimano?"

hahaha what an answer

Cam.

I'm not sure I get your point? The guy is a Shimano guy and sees Shimano suceed on a WC level for a living.

Of course he will stand behind the product that earns him a living. Did you expect him to recomend SRAM?

"well why would you wanna ride anything BUT shimano?"
not much of a reason

why should i drive a Ford?
cuz Ford says i should hahaha :???:

btw, I've gone from SRAM 9.0 to Shimano XT and hands down the 9.0 shifted smoother and I'm glad they have triggers now. And remember, this was never an issue of what was better. It was in response to why they werent compatible with anything but Shimano.

I still don't get what you are trying to say? If you are stoked on SRAM, why does this guy recomending the product he sells suprise you so much?

What did the SRAM booth say? "Our X.O. is great, but man, you should try the new XTR?"

dude….not a question of better or worse.

its a question of options. and this was what he was talking about. i asked why they made it so i cant run SRAM gear when every other hub company out there can accomodate both. its called OPTIONS. SRAM comes out with something that kicks the shit outta Saint in 6 months and you're gonna need a whole new hub and wheelbuild etc etc etc

It isn't new information or a secret that some of the Shimano stuff is not compatable with other brands. I think their idea is that the stuff is good enough to not want to mix and match with different components.

Its up to the consumer if they want it or not, and the market will dictate its success or demise.
