So, my old combo is blown. Kinda like creaking (even after cleaning thoroughly and re-assembling). Too old I guess.
SO I am looking for a new short-ish stem and a fitting bar, preferrrably riser-ish - I do not really like the current flat bars.
Straitline stems look :drool: but are really really really expensive over here - around 130 euros. So I guess not a choice.
Any ideas are much appreciated.

Not too sure what you have easy access to over there…
Get what fits? You know what you are comfortable with.
Stem? Fit/length is more important if you are doing a lot of sit-down pedalling, not so much if you are spending most of your time off the seat going downhill.
Bars? A larger rise will make it easier to pop up the front end. Flatter will make it more stable in the corners.
Stay away from carbon bars…
You should be able to order quite easily from CRC in Britain, as you are in Krautland. They have pretty good prices, and fast shipping. Just don't ask them any tech questions…

A really good, light and inexpensive stem (here, anyway) is the Truvativ Hussefelt of the last couple of years. My wife runs one on her Bottle Rocket and it's sturdy, short and cheap. For bars I like Race Face (Diabolus and Evolve DH) and Deity (Dirty 30 and 2014) and I've had no problems with them over the years. Lots of different rise options between the brands, Syncros seems to have a nice line up right now too.

Another vote for Truvativ. Not too heavy, strong and cheap. The Syncros bars are also really nice. Light too.
the bontrager king earl is great, 265 grams.. 7050 (more resistant to impacts the 7075) and not very expensive… 710mm wide.. looks sick too!

I can second the Big Earl or King Earl. Having good luck right now with an Easton HAVOC.
i'm riding king earls right now and i like it far better than the answer protapers i had before. interesting sweep compared to some other bars (from what i've noticed), but it actually have grown very fond of the overall feel. i'm currently trying to get rid of my raceface diabolus stem though, it's strong but overbuilt for my purposes, i'm going for a sunline v1 all mountain.
Another Truvativ vote. Straight out of China with minimal hype means cash left in the pocket.

Might take a look at the transition temple light. Good weight, looks like quality machining, and the price is reasonable. Like others have said though, it's really all preference.

The Truvativ Hussefelt 40mm stem/riser bar is a pretty wicked combo, highly recommend it.

Really light stem, too. Although, I don't think they have any decent handlebars to match.
My vote goes towards a Easton Havoc stem and EA70 bars. Light, stiff, and not too expensive.
