Up to 40% (important distinction!)

I'd say a potential drop in Canada will likely depend on Yen/Loonie spread.

highly doubt it.
Article published on the 10th and NX announced on the 11th
Shimano pricing's been fair compared to Sram. For instance, xt 11spd cassette at $150 CAD vs XT equivalent Sram XO1 cassette at 520 retail
If anything, shimano will release slx 11spd to compete with NX?

title should read, "Shimano USA slashes prices to compete with CRC"

NX is Deore level isn't it? Shimano are only discounting SLX and above.

It's largely the sales tax (or lack of) that makes on-line purchases from the UK and the like appealing. There's a 20% discount straight away if you don't get stung for any duties.

Ironically, when I lived in the UK I knew people who'd fly to the States with some shitty bike, chuck it away upon arriving, buy a nice shiny Turner / Santa Cruz etc, get it a bit dirty and fly home after a bit of a holiday. The money saved on the bike effectively gave them a free holiday. People are always going to find deals somehow.

yeah, nx would be deore but I can't really see shimano releasing deore in 11spd with 11-42 cassette; at least not yet but if they released slx 11spd, it'll be at a similar price point if not cheaper than nx

Yeah, I´d love a 1x11 SLX. My X01 RD just exploded and I am too cheap to buy another one…

That was kind of the point….

If you're going to buy NX because of the price point, and now can pay a touch more to get XT (or perhaps less for SLX 11 in the future), isn't that a no brainer?

Also, NX would be taking away Shimano sales anyway because of the use of the standard freehub body.

And who is to say that CRC can't/won't sell for cheaper now?

edit Hopefully this all translates into lower bike pricing for 2017.

mine is on it's way out as well both derailleur and cog set have damage and will need replacing soonish , so I am going back to ZEE with a RADR cage and a 42t conversion , cheap and nasty 10spd stuff again for me .

Depends on if CRC can buy from shimano at even lower costs now, which seems unlikely. I wasn't able to read the article, but I'm led to believe this new pricing structure only affects north america?

Lower bike pricing, unlikely. With the CDN dollar where it is, brace for an increase across the board

Supplier pricing and grey imports are only half the reason why large mail order places have such an advantage over the local bike store. The other is the proliferation of new 'standards' that make it impossible for the lbs to keep stock of sufficient inventory to cover the consumer's needs. If I have to wait ~2 weeks for my lbs to bring in the part I require, vs. 3 days to have it shipped from a warehouse distributor, guess which option I'm going to choose?

I guess you can say.. sram released NX to compete with Shimano.

Also, I think this is pretty old news… maybe not to consumers but for shop employees.
They quoted 119 usd to xt brake and we've had xt brake for 150~160 as CDN MSRP for the entire winter now

I'm buying a new groupset. $480 for eleven speed 105.

This.

Also when they offer to order said item(s) for book pricing and tell you it won't be until at least next week as they just ordered a few days ago.
