school me on DH cranks

Well, it might be time for a new set of cranks. My trusty saints have served me well, but it may be time to move on.

So what should I be considering in my hunt for strong, light and stiff? Stiff is actually a key point as I'm pretty heavy and can really feel the flex when I hammer. I don't like that. Sizing isn't an issue as I assume that all DH cranks are going to come in 83mm.

What do people think of the Descendants? Or how about the e*thirteen?

Holzfeller claims they have the lightest and strongest DH crank in the business. The OCT 1.1 DH crank.

When I was shopping for new cranks I was interested in the descendants but heard they were flexy, second hand info as I never tried them and ended up with e13 and am very happy with them.

Are they lighter than the 2012 Gravity Lights?

2010 Transition TR450 - 34.56lbs - the lightest TR450 ever?

It's a gimmick, they claim lightest cranks in the market, which is cranks without BB, the weight of the crank arms alone is somewhere around 675-690g.

I have been running Descendants for some time now, the bearings suck and the paint finish wears quickly too. They are light for an aluminium crank, lighter then saints and atlas. I found them to be in the same stiffness range as the atlas though, but when your on a DH bike you don't notice the flex to much in the cranks, it's mainly in the wheels.

If you're a meater, go for saints… Again…

i've tried sticking it in her butt and peeing, she feels that is more a gift for me than her.

Race Face Atlas and Truvativ Descendants are the lightest and weigh the same (2012 Atlas) but Atlas are stiffer, stronger, made locally, and have a lifetime warranty. Cant say enough good things about mine. Saints are very nice too (more similar in stiffness and strength to Atlas) and weigh about 80-100g more. If you want to go more bling, you can go SRAM X0 DH (750g) or the super light RF SIXC DH (650g)

I can testify to their claim, those cranks are unbreakable, but heavy…
