I am not sure if it is still the same, but bikes used to be close to twice the price in Europe than they are in NA. I know that when I left, it was worth people coming over to the States / Canada to buy them.

Those slayers had a really weird leverage ratio. IIRC it was strongly falling rate, so you would either bottom out, or it would be a harsh ride.

thanks for clearing that up.

regarding the bike prices; on our local market you either get a neglected/cracked/old/suspicious bike for less than 700 EUR, a decent one for 700-1200 EUR, and a good one for above 1200 EUR. if buying in the latter category, you are, as mentioned before, entering the entry level new bike territory. So yeah, depends on the buyer I guess.

Thanks all for your help, I will try to pass on the info, especially in regard to buying new instead of the used slayer.

And youve also got all the mail order bikes to consider. Check out http://www.yt-industries.com/ or http://www.roseversand.com/content/catalogue or http://www.canyon.com/ and compare prices to the used RM you mention above.

I still ride a 2006 Slayer frame and like it. None of the components no it are 2006 though. My only peeve is the narrow rear triangle. It will only fit a narrow (e.g. Maxxis) 2.35 tire. Other than that, no complaints.

Having said that, I agree with the others on price. Should be able to find newer for less. Also, that fork appears to be a mis-match for that frame. Needs something stiffer.
