RMX design flaw ? Derailleur hitting swingarm...

Hello Everyone!

About a week ago, I took my RMX (2005 RMX R1) on its first ride and I have noticed that even on a small drop/jump, the derailleur would hit the bottom of the swing arm upon landing. I must have had the chain on the middle cog in the back and the derailleur is an LX.

I solved the problem temporarily by taping some tissue paper on the bottom of the swing arm to dampen the hit.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, is this common, is there a better solution than my ghetto tape and paper?

Thanks,

Pedro

I think getting a sram derailleur will solve the problem. Not sure if there is all that much you can do, I would personally just put a few layers of old tube there to soften the impact.

just tape a peice of foam or rubber or something where it hits. If you have your chainstay taped up jsut run the tape a bit further.

It was super annoying but now it's totally fine and quiet.

my 4x4 has the same problem because of the horst-link pivot… I just zip-tied a couple layers of old tube over it to pad it…

It's because it is a Shitmano rear derailleur. Not much else can be said.

I pulled the back wheel off and slid on an old DH tube that I had kicking around. Then rapped in hockey tape. It may be a little overkill, but it works good. And it helps to keep the bike a little more quiet.

mmmm….carbon

The video takes quite a while to download, but its not a very long clip. Maybe a minute long or so. Its just a shitty server.

This whole sram versus shimano isnt just about how they feel. Its how they function. They work very differently (as you can see).

It's like the SRAM derailleur has SPV.
