anyone have a spare 02' VPS chainstay kicking around?

Trying to weld the crack is, IMO, a dangerous option.

The chainstays on the older VPS bikes were prone to failure. Everyone I've ever talked to about it said that Norco has been great about helping owners out with either warranty or crash replacement. You would be better to go that route.

I can't think of the proper word, but i heard from a bike shop that norco put a lifetime warranty on all of there frames they had sold or something :S In other words if you bought it 10 years ago with a 5 year warranty, it now has a lifetime warranty… Don't quote me on it though, but thats what a guy at a norco dealer told me

no such thing. I think you are thinking about crash replacement.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Norco either had something kicking around, or if one of their newer chainstays would fit. Get your LBS to contact them.

double suspension frames only have a 5 year warranty. but usually Norco is pretty good about it. It also depends on were the crack is, and if the original proof of purchase is provided.

5 years is a lifetime for an aluminium frame. Anyone who is sending it on a frame with more than 5 seasons (never mind that we can ride all year round) should have their head examined. Either that or start buying lottery tickets.

ask Norco if they will sell you a new part for a good price (under retail) as a gesture of goodwill, and that you'll love 'em for ever :)

Tell them it's been cracked for over a month.
