Hello NSMBers,
I'm wondering if you could help me set up Elka shock on my Knolly Chilcotin 2013 bike.
I recently got some couple year old but regularly serviced and maintained Elka Stage 5 coil shock. Cannot get it set up right though despite following shock manual recommendations (start with Rebound in middle of possible clicks, start with LSC in middle and HSC at minimum). Have been playing with settings for couple clicks on each setting and combination but the output is not satisfatory.
Ride is harsh, bike seems bouncy and springy and underdamped, I like plush ride but no setting I tried got the right feel. Rear suspension does not seem to follow the terrain and absorb roots and rocks I'd like to but at the same time feels overactive (too much spring feel and too little shock damping). If I increase rebound by couple clicks it gets worse. When inreased HSC the ride is more quiet but feels dead at the same time.
On flowy trails there is no problem, shock absorbs impacts as it should, traction is there, but once I get to the real trails or alpine trails, the shock feels not right.
I weight about 73kg bare, I have proper (think) shock spring 450lbs which give me 25% SAG when standing on the bike just with shoes, up to almost 30% with fully loaded backpack I ride mountains or bikeparks with. Shock was serviced this winter by previous owner.
Wondering if anyone at used Elka Stage 5 shock on Chilcotin or other Knolly enduro bike and have some setting recommendations?
Much obliged
Piotr
