Will they make mid-travel full-sus trail bikes redundant?

they actually kind of make sense for entry to mid level hard tails. one more choice for the consumer who has been riding for 6 month, loaded with internet fed knowledge to claim is the next big thing. and that's where the money is.

Just a speculative fiction. No cause for alarm.

i'd totally try a plus size hardtail, just for the bit of extra rear cush. 26 or 650 though. no interest in turning 29x3.0 tires.

Been riding 27.5X3.0 tires for about three months now on a hardtail. Gotta say it's upped the fun factor a ton. These bikes will not replace full suspension but they will appeal to entry riders or people like myself, veteran hardtail riders who are looking for something different. I'll try and post some photos of the bike when I have a chance.

I'm curious if you could share some more information on your experience. Been looking at the Instigator from Surly as a way to change things up from my Karate Monkey. Been wanting a more aggressive hardtail, but at 5'6" the tall front end of a 29er with 140mm of travel seems like too much.

Seems like only Orbea/Norco have long enough f/c to use short stems?

I'm running 3.0 Chronicles at 15-18 psi. The amount of cornering grip compared to a standard setup is markedly better, especially in flat corners. Places where I felt I would have to brake before I'm not even touching them. The wheel tire combo (WTB Scrapers and Maxxis Chronicles) roll as fast if not faster than my old setup on my Chromag (Minion front/Ikon rear on Blunt 35's) which was actually quite surprising when I first jumped on the bike. The fun factor is partially because I'm riding something different and new but mostly because the wheels make the feel of the bike riding trail "floaty"? The bike just sucks up the small bumps like a sponge and you can roll through things faster than before because you're braking less. I've also found the bike to jump just fine too. I'm really enjoying the change and won't be building up my old frame anytime soon.
