PIke Oil-lowers

Google search returns mixed results. SRAM calls for 0w30 Rockshox oil in Pike lowers .

Can 0w30 synthetic motor oil fit the bill? What are people using?

Motor oil absolutely for the lowers. I use Mobil1 synthetic in the lowers of all my forks. It is only there as splash oil in the lowers, so does not need the characteristics the oil in needs in the uppers.

Absolutely no issue using synthetic oil in the lowers. In fact, it is probably better at lubricating (which is the main function of splash oil) than the suspension oil used in the uppers.

I wouldn't use motocross suspension oil. I used it in my 888 and the seals swelled. Fork ruined.

I had some extra amsoil syn motor oil that i used in my pike with no problem..

How are forks ruined if seals fail, it's bath oil dude replace your seals with low friction and buy synthetic oil. I've been running motocross shock oil for 10 years, it's less than half the price of any Fox product and buttery smooth.

Seals swelled then deteriorated, then the fork puked oil. So the fork went from sticky to no oil. I had marz. replace all the seals and o rings but it never felt quite as good as it did when new. I replaced it with a 380 and used the 888 as a trade in.

Use motorcycle suspension fluid. Anything else and you are throwing away money. Afteral the "mtb" specific oil is probably just rebranded mx oil anyway. In case you think its bad for your special mountain bike suspension, well mostly every shop uses mx fluid.

As for the bottom of the fork, almost any oil will be fine. Its just for lubrication.

This makes no sense. On the 888 the bath oil IS the damper oil. Motocross suspension oil is absolutely what you should be using. No way that should ever have damaged the seals.

Re: The Pike. Sram recommend 0-30w synthetic oil. I use 20wt fork oil with good results.

Probably better to try to find oil that doesn't have it.

I used to use motorcycle fork oil in my old Boxxer but in recent years I've had Suspension Werx take care of the Fox stuff and Marzocchi NV take care of the Marzocchi stuff.
