Park bike and Trail bike?

I'm just wondering about peoples thoughts on having a park bike and an enduro bike.

Currently I have a Specialized Enduro Aluminum Comp 650b, new Lyric, debonair w/bike yoke (so I can run any shock I want), Chromag BZA Carbon bar/stem/grips, DT Swiss 350 hubs and EX471 rims, 1x11, dropper, SRAM Guide RS brakes. All the regular stuff. I ride this bike almost every weekend 10-20km rides, WBP 5 or 6 times a year. It has served me well. Most of the upgrades have been done in the past year

The frame developed a crack and Specialized is Giving me a 2016 Carbon Expert frame as a replacement.

I also have built up a Commencal META 4 for my son (14 years old 100lbs) with DVO Diamond fork, Topaz shock, Easton bar/stem, DT Swiss 350 hubs and EX471 rims, 1x11, Sram DB5 brakes, etc.

This year I am planning on buying season passes to whistler for my son and I. I have never had a park type bike and was thinking of getting one this year as we are planning on doing quite a few Whistler Park days. This would also keep the Enduro in better shape as I now the park is hard on bikes.

I have a line on a virtually new 2015 DeVinci Wilson Frame and a few other bits that I can build up.

I usually like the technical blues and blacks at WPB, my son likes Crank It Up and jump tracks, this year I would actually like to work on my jumping skills.

Thoughts??

If you are committing to a seasons pass at WBP, a DH bike is a no brainer. You will have more fun, progress more and you wont be kicking the crap out of your trail bike.
If the Wilson was good enough for Chainsaw, it should work out just fine for you in the park :)

I have an E29 which I use as my trail bike but I picked up a Legend recently for WBP and the bigger sketch on the Shore, and for when I can get dropped off up top on the Shore.

So I think it makes perfect sense. You'd be enduring unnecessary hardship if you dont. Your son too! It goes without saying that if you're going to take on MTB duty with your son while your wife goes to the spa, the least she can do is accept that you will need a bigger bike. Its only fair!

I tried to ride my Kona process full time in the park a couple years ago (I get 90+ days each summer)… No thanks

DH bike yes. Trail bike will take major beating.
I wonder if Santa Cruz sells a top of the line DH for around 14k?

Has anyone ridden the Intense Uzzi? I was also looking for a park/shuttle bike that wasn't a full DH bike.

Why aren't you looking for a full DH bike? Because you want to pedal for x% of your rides? If so, what does x equal?

buy_dh();

Thanks for the input everyone! Looks like i'll be building up a Wilson. I don't know if I can afford to build one for the boy as well…I'm probably going to put some carbon cranks on the new Enduro as well.

Wilson will probably be, SRAM GX DH 7 speed, DT Swiss 350 Hubs with EX471 or EX511 or FR570, Guide brakes.

Suggestions on good WBP tires would be nice, I'm kind of partial to MAXXIS and Specialized tires for the Enduro. Any other comments on the rest of the build like the rims would be great too.

Thanks Again

I've done a full garbo lap on a flat 570 and it is still ding free. I didn't charge, but still passed people on Expressway. My new bike has carbon wheels which I strongly suspect will be 570s after I break them the first week (prove me wrong wheels, prove me wrong).

I go with Magic Mary's because zee Germans sell them to me for cheap and they last me just as long as DHFs and they hold me true.

I ran carbon cranks for a good 60-90 park days. X01. They were looking like they were ready for a rest. Replaced them with a new set. Third lap in on Angry Pirate and managed to snap an arm. Warranty was handled well but there was a lack of surprise. Not sure what to think of that.

I run either 2.35 Magic Mary VertStar tubeless or 2.4 DHRIIs

A Zee grade drivetrain and brakeset can be had so cheap it's not funny.

The revised Knolly Delirium seems like a good option in this category.

The META sounds like a sweet bike for your son. With the way you have it spec'ed it should serve him well at the bike park, at least until he decides he 'needs' a full-on DH rig. This may be sooner than you think if you guys are using your seasons pass a lot. So much fun riding with your kids.

Good call on the Wilson.

If you only have one bike and prefer the downs to the ups, it is a very good option.
