trousers are all the rage; they make so much sense in our (current) climate, but for some reason i've been slow to adopt. what works? don't necessarily require waterproof, as that's rarely effective anyways, just something that's pedal friendly, and tallish / slim fit. ride nf dp3 looks solid (plus local!), endura mt500 burner perhaps? what else? fox ranger looks a bit too minimalist (plus i like belt loops). don't really care for the baggy fit of the rf agents.
Do you guys wear pants when climbing or just for shuttling? I've always assumed that I would overheat super easily if I tried to wear pants on a pedally ride, even in the middle of winter.
I picked up a pair of Leatt DBX 4.0 Pants last fall from Jenson. Not particularly waterproof but a nice fit and easy to pull off at the end of a ride. Sizing is on the small side though. I got XL and I'm just under 6 foot and they only just reach my (K)ankles.
The big plus about pants in the winter is that your legs aren't covered in mud at the end of a ride. So swopping into another pair of pants is straightforward.

Mine are great for climbing too. Not overly hot.

I just picked up some Fox Ranger 3L Water pants and I am absolutely in love with them.
Ride NF is all the rage. You just missed a sale on their site in the past 2 weeks. That waistband just fits my Canadian muffin top perfectly.
I’m looking at a pair of their Beserker 3L pants for wetter rides.
7Mesh has a 3L Gore pant coming soon.
i can only imagine what a 7mesh pant will cost. given nf is made locally, they seem like a relative bargain. i suppose the berserker would be a good winter choice...

My dakine trillium pants are simple and cheaper than most of the other options. Vents around the crotch work well, so well I'm probably colder on the lift with them than I would be in shorts haha.

I’m impressed with the NF. So much so that they might be taking over for Norrøna Fjora as my favourite Mtn bike thigh covering. The no waist asmdjustment and fly put myself off at first. But they just work. Probably helps that at 1.75m and 80kg the medium seems like it’s a perfect fit.
I’ll likely wear one of these pairs on my road bike this winter with a 7Mesh Guardian or Revelation jacket.

I’ll second the Leatt DBX 4. Not really waterproof but they are excellent for pedalling. I don’t have nearly the rain to contend with as you do on the coast though.
