Freedom of contract. We sell them guns that kill them; they sell us drugs that kill us.

You can pick one up from your local MEC now! A mere $8300CDN (which is actually cheaper than the $6999USD list).

Does anyone else in the lower mainland carry Intense? If so id imagine this wont make them too happy.

Ah….the word is out. Interesting mix of brands for sure. The plan was that other shops will continue to stock Intense, but I've heard that Intense and OGC have parted company so not sure how that will pan out.

MEC in Vancouver has some good techs so hopefully they will be allowed to build them rather than the store manager over-riding who-ever is now running the Bike Shop and getting someone in Footwear to build bikes who hasn't ridden one in 15 years….

I blame this all on the super-rich Chinese, man. MEC done gone "boutique". :scream:

Does anyone else remember when MEC was getting into selling whole bikes they said they were not going to aim at the high end market?

I just spent a romantic day at the beach with my shiny, $9000 bike.

I thought that Dunbar across the street sells Intense?

There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.

It looks like Dunbar has some on their website. Appears as though they are selling all the models MEC isn't. MEC: Recluse, ACV, Spider. Dunbar: Tracer, Carbine, 951, M16. Almost looks like they came to an agreement on what each of them would sell to cut down on competition?

Even if they did say that, I don't think anyone should be too concerned. The small shop that I work in now sells more high end bikes in a week than the whole of MEC. How many people looking for a high end computer buy one from London Drugs? Staff maybe and one or two other people but I'm sure the independents get much of the business.

Up until now, MEC hasnt really had a 'high end' mountain bike. Ghost has some higher end models, but still isnt considered an 'high end' bike. Id go to LD to buy a high end computer if it were considerably cheaper than the one at the independent store. Why wouldn't you? Not sure how the pricing on the MEC Intense bikes will compare to the LBS.

A quick look at REI shows they sell Ghost, Cannonade and Diamondback. Topping out at ~5000 and lower priced bikes.
Go to backcountry.com and you'll see a Yeti SB5.5C XTR at $10499 and bikes priced down from there. They sell Yeti, SC, Ibis, Niner, Evil,Ellsworth… They've gone right for the high-end market

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

For my next bike, rather than getting shamboozled on PinkBike, I will be purchasing new from MEC. Basing my decision on their warranty policy they apply to everything they sell.

I wonder if their rock solid warranty applies to these high end bikes. Like, hypothetically; you leave it on the roof of your car and try to go into your underground. Can I bring this thing in in pieces and walk out with a new one? Not so sure about that…:dizzy:
