This happend about 2 minutes ago, as I was checking my bike for any loose bolts and damages. I found one bolt on linkplate is VERY loose so i decided to give it a go and tighten it. To be honest I seriously did not over tighten.. i was tightening it and SNAP bolt snapped. what do i do? i cant get the broken piece out of the axle thing, where can i get a replacement part?

your thumb is very stubby

PS- Its a Norco…. You should be able to get hooked up with a replacement bolt at just about any shop you walk into. Its no trouble.

if you didn't over tighten it what caused the metal to seperate itself?

If it was loose then probably the parts it's supposed to hold have been moving and that's caused a fatigue fracture.

Can you get the stuck part in a vise and then unscrew it? If not, a good bike shop or mechanic should be able to get it out if you need it (they should have tools to extract stuck or broken bolts), else probably a Norco LBS should be able to get the replacement part.

Use an easy out. They work great.

Is it on an 03 A-Line? I was working on one a while back and the same thing happened with no force. I think the A-line was using cheaper hardware than the higher end bikes.

yeah 03 aline.. ive replaced it with stem bolts for NOW, temporary.

edit: hey btw….. i just read this post about snapping a shock spring…and I was just wondering if A-line is supposed to have 2.8" spring? because when i measured its stroke length its 2.5 but came with 2.8

The spring will not completely compress, which is a good thing and how it is supposed to be. If you ran a spring that is too short (less than the stroke), that would be bad. Only bad thing, in your case, is if the spring is too long for the shock.

2.8 is the maximum compression distance of the sspring, you always want that distance to be greater than the shock stroke length to avoid coil bind.
