Offset shock bushings?

Does anyone have any experience with the titanium bushings? My first thought is that ti isn't an ideal material for this bushing - ideally you want something with a very hard and smooth surface. Ti tends to be quite a bit softer and gummier than alloy steel. I guess you're saving a tiny bit of weight, but I wouldn't be surprised if these ti bits wore out rather quickly (albeit, not as quickly as aluminum).

I'm making a few of these offset bushings as we speak - out of 4140 - no f*cking around.

you are over thinking it , the rotation for the bushing is minimal , save the 4140 for industrial stuff .

Maybe I am over-thinking it, but I hate bike maintenance and prefer parts that last a really long time :)

Still curious about the life expectancy of the ti bushings. I've always run the hardened steel ones that Fox supplies, and they're pretty good. But even those will start to wear and deform after lots of abuse.

back in the early days of full suspension ( mid to late 90,s ) a lot of the designs where using small dia bolts , with multiple part linkages that where under built , shock pivots got shit kicked . Pretty much every design I owned I ended up machining my own pivot pins and bushings to get longer life

Yup. Pretty much the same era in which I started building my own DH frames ;)

An alternative to offset shock bushings is to reduce the eye to to eye of your airshock. It accomplishes the same result as offset shock bushes, only costs you a few dollars with a plastic spacer, and is reversible.

Yes you do lose out a tiny bit of travel, but I'm sure you'd sacrifice 5-10mm of wheel travel for better geometry.

If you open up any air shock there is a top out bumper or spacer that controls the extension limits of the air shock. Just drop in a 2,3mm spacer in there (I used a 1 1/8" stem spacer to mock it up) and build the shock back up.

This used to be a 50mm stroke air can but is now a 41mm stroke using a spacer. Original i2i was 200mm now its 191mm. Rides great. This was for a 650b conversion.

We tune the travel of forks with stroke-limiting spacers so why not air shocks?!

Whilst this is definitely an option, and safer in terms of avoiding frame/link/tyre contact, bear in mind you actually lost closer to an inch in travel doing this by the time you factor in the leverage ratio of the frame.

In this example I converted the bike from 26 to 650b. So yes the travel lost was about an inch. Had to keep wheel from hitting frame at bottom out, and also drop the BB.

My suggestion still stands tho, reduce your i2i by 2 or 3mm and reap the geometry gains if needed.
