How do we not have a thread celebrating the age old partnership between fine bikes and fine coffee?

Consider this oversight rectified.

Here is how I enjoy my black gold every morning.

Good call. I love me my coffee.

Nice naked pour video.

Recently upgraded our dying 20 year old machine to a Delonghi semi-auto. We use it daily but haven’t done a slow-mo pour yet. Will need to do that and post

It seems we all like the same things haha! I was tired of fixing my Baratza Encore grinder so I just got a 1Zpresso jx-pro manual grinder... it's crazy how precisely I can tune the grind. Plus it's way less noisy, which is awesome, especially with a newborn.

Whoa, that's an amazing looking manual grinder. Great option for a sleeping baby (what a great baby shower gift that for couples with a new infant?).

I have a MACAP grinder that has worked flawlessly for the past 6 years, but it is loud. It clumps a bit more than I'd like but I have a ground distributor that fixes any lumps for me.

I bought a Rocket R58 6 years ago as well, and although the cost of annual maintenance is more than most people spend on a basic coffee machine - it's worth it for me. It also looks great on the counter and keeps my cups warm.

I don't actually listen to freebird every time I pull an espresso shot though ;)

i so miss the la marzocco i used every day in the rapha clubhouse, new gig only has a manual ecm machine. local coffee brand is nice though. but not having perfect water sucks big time in quality. at rapha we had a complete deionizer + ca/mg addon after.

Holy shit, you guys are serious. I'm drinking coffee right now, but it only came out of my Bialetti Kitty.

Kitty

I'll take the upside of being able to use it on the cooker when sleeping in the tent.

If you want a good drip machine without the hotplate, I can heartily endorse the Bonavita - incredibly simple to use and no hotplate which is a huge plus. I was going to get the technivorm but it's twice the cost.

I'm on the fence about getting an espresso machine as I still enjoy the bitter small brews from my Bialetti as well when I'm in the mood.

I've heard great things about the bonavita. I made my partners at the office all chip in for a mochamaster. The hotplate is ok if set to the correct temperature. Coffee also tastes better from glass carafe than stainless steel imo. My office staff love this thing. It even makes bad coffee beans taste not too bad. Now if only I could convince my partners to buy great beans...

As for the home espresso machine. It is definitely a luxury, not a necessity. I enjoy an areopress almost as much as what my rocket pours out.

Here is our DeLonghi La Specialista. We call her Deloris as a nod to the lead robot character in Westworld.

Strikes a balance of me wanting a full manual machine and my wife wanting super auto. It gets a lot of usage throughout the typical weekday

How much am I missing by buying ~5ish days of freshly roasted beans ground for me for my French press at my local shop (Matchstick)? I have a cheap electric grinder that sucks. It definitely tastes better on day 1 but it's still good at the end of the bag? Should sack up and buy a burr grinder I guess since partial work from home seems indefinite now.

I started measuring the grounds and timing the brew/skimming the top based on some YouTube videos and it made a big diff.

Definitely worth a good burr grinder. You are already noticing the difference on day 1 to 5. You don’t need to go nuts though, even one around $100 will be great.

I’ve been very happy with my Baratza Encore grinder - easily adjustable and rebuildable which is not that common at its price point.

Then Aeropress or French press for to make the coffee. I leave the espresso to the professionals. I’ve never had a good shot from a home setup, even from my friends who think they “have it figured out”.
