Alright, I'm down and out with a ruptured syndesmosis in my left ankle. I'll have surgery next week, they're gonna insert a rod in my left foot and I'll have another surgery in 6 weeks, not allowed to do any sports for approximately 3 months. Fack yeah!

So I'm sitting here, bored as hell, wondering what parts I could swap on my bike over the winter. The list is up there. I already purchased a narrower rear tire as well as No Tubes sealant and two Maxxis Ultralight BMX tubes, so no recommendations for the wheels please. :) Apart from that, feel free to reply.

Also, should I get a PS3 or a Xbox 360?

There are lots of items that are considerably lighter than what you have on your bike.
Saddle, seatpost, cranks, pedals, stem, and shock spring are the first that come to mind.

I can't see myself spending a lot of money on parts simply because they are a couple of grams lighter than my current setup. A new stem would save me 20 grams at most and I'm looking at spending $150 - not a good dollar-to-weight-ratio.

What's the best 83mm crankset out there except for the FSAs which seem to bend very easily? Does anyone have the weights of newish OS cranksets such as the Race Face Atlas FR or Shimano Saint?

If you're not absolutely in love with the Michelin tires, a set of Maxxis Minion UST work well with the 721 tubeless setup and will knock of almost a pound.

As for the FSA Gravity Lights…some guys bend them, some guys don't. Do you generally bash the crap out of your cranks?

Lots of other places to save weight but you'll be saving minimal grams by getting rid of a perfectly good part and paying big buck for a new part that won't really work any better.

What's it weigh now?

Current weight is 42.3 lbs which is not that light but also not really heavy, at least in my opinion. Most of the weight sits around the BB area so the center of gravity is quite low.
As for the tires… I just bought a new pair of Michis and I think that they're amazing. I might get a ti spring and I'll definitely pick up smaller stuff such as new pedals and a new headset. Have the crankbros headsets held up well so far?

When properly done, ghetto tubeless will work with virtually any tire (UST or NON UST).

There are dozens of posts on this board about how to set up ghetto tubeless they can take you through it step by step.

Darryl got his down to 39.9 with not really many places to lose more. He started at 43lbs and I'd be willing to bet he can't tell the different between the 2 setups when actually riding.

They're pretty light, and you can get the shorter length one that weight sub 200 grams. It will fit the 2.8 stroke DHX you have on your shocker. A really nice, bling, funtional part swap IMO.

Cranks, well I would recommend the Gravity solely based on their weight. However, I'd be pretty keen on getting a set of XTR cranks and removing the threaded bearing adjuster. Best weight loss there!

I know, weight savings is all about your mind anyway. For Pros it's custom tuned suspension that makes them faster, for us normal people it's using the lightest parts available. It's not those parts that make you faster, it's the knowledge that you have them on your bike.

The Shocker uses a 3" stroke length. I get pretty good deals on Nuke Proof Ti springs which seem to be the lightest Ti's out there so I'll go this route.

thats what i was thinking after i posted.. seeing as how you coat the inside of the tire and rim with sealant

can anyone point me towards the best article? i remember seeing some a few years back but never gave it a second thought because supermonsters were in and titanium or carbon fiber was not :lol:

I know. That's why I said remove the threaded bearing preload adjuster. There are ways to make it work.
