Lightest DH bike wins bragging rights, however lets see the bike you are running and the weight regardless of whether you are a contender or not.

Build it, weigh it and take a photo to post in this thread.

If you can, get a picture of the bike clearly showing the weight on the scale or people will call your bluff.

Must be a rideable bike with 7" minimum rear travel and 7" minimum up front. No excuses.

Cut off date is August 31st

the morewood is actually gonna be my heavy bike. alot of the parts you see on the socom will be making there way to the morewood……eventually.

the plan, right now, is to take all the parts of my demo9 and throw them on the morewood and they ain't all that light of parts.

saints, hope 6pots, hadley hub , mavic 729's, etc…they don't make for a light build.

the socom is about 38 pounds right now and i'm hoping to go sub-36(i'll be happy with 36, but where's the challenge in that) with a reliable build..

oh and as a side note, the wife(sparkplug on the board) will be building a pretty light DH rig herself and she could have it finished by the end of this month…

yeah I can't compete with the socom.. Although my "Pimp" wheelset is reportedly ~1750g, but I haven't got them yet.. nothing else on my bike is suuupppper light.. :agree:

Is there a Vancouver in Taiwan?! I had no idea!!

36lbs is crazy for a DH bike!! Out of curiosity, what is the frame only weight of the Socom, around 7lbs? Is it a flexy feeling frame?

All three are super-nice bikes.

Is it a flexy feeling frame?

Hmmm. This'll be interesting…

ya on both.

the frame and shock and spring are a touch over 8.5 lbs…so i would think frame only would be 7 lbs.

coming from a demo 9, yes the socom is flexy, but i definetely don't feel it effects my riding ability. i wouldn't be surprised that a certain amount of the flexing comes from the VPP design it's self.

so far, i love this thing on the shore and love it up whistler.

Make it a more interesting contest and at a dollar to weight ratio calculation.

Sure someone can go out and spend 10g's on a rig. Lets see who can do it the cheapest.

if anyone needs a light set of cranks for their new light bike, I have a set of Atlas cranks (170mm) that will not fit my new frame that I could unload. PM for info.

Okay.

A dollar per gram would be interesting to see, but in this challenge to all comers, it is money no object.

In the end, it is the weight that matters.

I know there are other out there that would LOVE to compete, so post em up and I will put them in the original post.

Just take the picture of the bike on a scale.

hmm my socom retails for $3300 and i paid alot less and i mean alot less then that and my morewood(i don't know what retail is but i would venture to say 2100-2400) was less then a thousand……WAY less then a thousand…. but used…..how would one calculate that?

i usually won't pay more then 60[HTML_REMOVED]#37; retail…and spend alot of time hunting for good deals…but to figure a dollar per gram thing would be tuff cause used will always win.
