Beautiful stooge, even with the enormous fenders! Off topic, but I think you mentioned earlier in the thread you are on the Norcal coast (also judging by the redwood in that picture). A move to Mendocino county for a couple years might be in my near future and I am curious to know about the riding if you have any thoughts. I have a friend there but he is more of a gravel/road guy. Looks like nice riding in Jackson Forest but maybe pretty nontechnical?

Im up in the eureka area.  Humboldt has great riding, the scene is definitely growing in a lot of good and exiting ways, all sorts of trails for all sorts of bikes (dh to gravel).  I'm still fairly new to the area, have been visiting for years, but its off the beaten path enough up here that you have to do a lot of exploring to find all the good stuff.  So I haven't had a chance to venture down to the Mendocino area with bikes yet.

That being said, everytime I pass through, I definitely get the urge to explore.  Theres some really interesting geology down there, looks like great dirt and terrain potentially.  A lot more diverse than up here.  Stoneyford is an excellent moto riding area down that way and definitely shows the potential that zone has.  I remember hearing about some riding in Jackson Demonstration Forest I believe, dont recall it well but I think there was a guy from up in that area that was kinda spearheading mtb trail development and doing group rides.  Maybe it was on the mtbr forum, not sure.  Sorry I don't have anything more specific but thats the best part about these weird bikes with less suspension, they're so much fun to just get out and explore beautiful places on, who knows what youll find.

That's a sweet looking Marino.  What color is that (in case I order a Marino one day?)  It looks very seafoam green which is also a great guitar color.  ;)

Kind of reminds  me of the the Bianchi green colour.

Niels and I went over to the other side of Comox Lake today to explore Cumberland's steeper/rockier and less popular cousin Forbidden Plateau. Forbidden has seen a lot of logging activity over the last year or two. I've stayed away until it was mostly over.

There was a decent amount of snow at the top, but it disappeared quickly as we descended. A good chunk of the trails we rode were not impacted by logging which made me very happy.

We did run into a fair bit of clear cut as well. Credit to the local builders that trails have quickly been reestablished even in areas that were nuked. It's hardly the same as it was riding through the previous sections of forest, but the trails are still fun and those areas won't get logged again while I am still riding mountain bikes. Plus you do get some nice views now.

My classmate from Lynn Valley, Justin Brown, went down to Humboldt a million or so years ago and stayed. Owner of Revolution Bicycles in Arcata.

Still haven't been down to ride yet, but it sure looks mint.

On a sidenote, Fartymarty deets on that chromag please. How on earth did you manage to ss one without a chain tensioner device? Its beyond aesthetic, just a perfect hardtail

It wasn't mine, I just reposted the piccy from @TheJankFiles (https://nsmb.com/profile/17324/) link.

It is tidy tho and would also like to know how it was SSed.

Here's a vid with a hack of how to do it.

I have done it in the past through luck using a half-link chain. It worked but the problem I had was that, as the chain wore and 'stretched', I couldn't micro-adjust it, so had a slightly loose chain most of the time. Maybe I'm just lazy with changing chains though ha-ha.

Thanks for the video.  Ive not seen it done like that before.  Ive also used half link chains and tweaked chainring / cog sizes until it's spot on but as you say doesn't account for wear.

Triple-hardtail urban assault lean. No need to use a lock when you have fenders like that!

'Offenders' more like ;-)   Loving the plus wheels though.

Which frame bag do you have here Vik?  I quite like mine but think it could fit better.  Your's looks more funky and like it would fit better.

I'm getting tired of kids asking me if mine is a motor.

I had a roadie ask if he could draft me on my e-bike because he was tired after a long ride. I replied draft away, but this baby is 100% MEAT powered! he rode alongside me for a bit to confirm and I think his mind was blown. The fenders + plus tires + frame bag seem to indicate e-bike these days.

My frame bag is a custom unit made by Scott at Porcelain Rocket back when he was making bags. What size is your Moxie?

I've got the Long size with 470mm reach.

Your bag sounds quite specialist. It looks very nice.  There is Alpkit in the UK who make custom sized bags so that's probably going to be my fall back option.

I've been through a few bags and have never been completely satisfied.  They have gotten bigger though as I've gone on so might as well get one that fits the whole frame space.

Any of the bikepacking bag companies that do custom sizing will be able to sort you out.

This bag off Amazon would fit a Long reasonably well if the shape/size suits you and they are available in the UK. --> https://tinyurl.com/yc2mxyja

Here's my daughter's 2023 version of her hardtail. She got some hand me down hydraulic brakes last fall. We added a colour matched stem for Christmas and a kid specific 70mm dropper post for her birthday.

It's basically done now, when she progresses to steeper terrain then we'll go mullet and run a 26" front wheel and/or bump the fork up to 140mm from the current 110mm

Two Stooges were at the top of the list, then I saw Treemer's Moxie and wavered, but now I'm decided, /\that is the best bike in the thread. Good Dad Ian, hitting it outta the park.

Moxie

Moxie leaning against a tree. I presume it’s not an ash because many of these are being felled in these woods right now due to ash dieback - thankfully the trails are mostly only being temporarily blocked by the logging.

I removed the chain guide and bash a couple of weeks ago because I don’t need the former as I’m still loving singlespeed life and the latter collects too much mud in the winter - and this bike isn’t as crazy low as my old hardtail.
