Who had the singlespeed rigid Sirius with the thicker crown race?

Hullo?

Funny you should ask - I've actually got a new Murmur on the go which is getting my attention these days. But the Moxie's about to emerge as Squamish moves out of this recent cold/dry spell.

Swapped the Saints off the Moxie, and Codes from the Geometron.

The raw power of the skidswitch was too much for the hardtail, and the Codes felt a bit woeful on the bigger bike. (to be fair it could have been the pads, I put new ones in during the swap).

Also put the speedy summer tyre back on the rear and firmed up the fork, I'm trying to put some distance in feel between the two, more zippy stiff here, traction and plush there.

That's the one - thanks.  I've just ordered a Forge fork for the Solaris.

Sweet on the Murmur.  They're awesome bikes altho my Solaris is getting all the love these days.

After breaking a third frame this year and cracking my Stooge fork, I am back to full-time hardtailing now:

Old (2017ish?) Last Fastforward frame I got used for a song, size Large, with a mix of parts I trust or sourced/swapped around/modified for this build:

After getting used to the slightly more compact geometry compared to my retired Pipedream Moxie, I feel right at home. Since taking the picture, I swapped in a barely alive OneUp Dropper and lowered the bars slightly by swapping out the top headset and stem. Tested it on both my home trails and more serious terrain within reach by train -- steep, tight, technical, occasionally fast stuff. The rear semislick is a good recipe for barely-controllable fun in the slippery conditions we got recently over here.

Nice looking hardtail. Enjoy!

Can you remind me how/where the Stooge fork cracked? I've got one now so I want to keep an eye out for any issues since it's getting ridden fairly hard.

If anyone is looking for a hardtail to lean on something, Knolly has a killer sale on frames and complete bikes. OG steel or Ti if you want to get fancy. I would definitely get one if I didn't have one already.

Thanks!

The fork cracked all the way around the joint between the lower "plane" of the biplane and the steerer.

The biplane forks -- I heard -- also tended to bend when pushed hard by big guys, something the segmented fork off the Mk6 is supposed to address. I still need to write my mail of shame to Andy to sort this out though, so that latter bit is just hearsay.

Your Stooge looks really nice, too, I agree on the necessity of full fenders. I was once told by a stranger it basically looks like a Trials Moto that way ;-)

I also recommend keeping an eye on the bolt-in dropouts coming loose, I had to use some strong loctite to keep them put.

Thanks for the feedback. I inspect my Pipedream Sirius S5 frames regularly as I am overforked outside the design specs. I don't tend to break things so I'm hopeful I won't have any Stooge fork drama, but I'd rather spot trouble early than ignore it until it's too late.

One of my friends had one of these frame when they were first released.

I wanted to get one but they were so progressive I wasn't sure if like it then they stopped making them.

Be fast or be Last, I guess.

I'll see myself out.

The Bird fork will be great on the Solaris without the extended crown race. Mine started on an old Rootdown and then to the Moxie so I was trying to match a (sagged) 150-160 mm fork. I've got a 25 mm spacer so 530 A2C overall. This was the cheapest (by far) option to get something that tall. RSD were only taking pre-orders at that time and I was happy to avoid the pack mounts and alumin(i)um silhouette. Steel steerer so I'm not concerned about strength/leverage/support. Looking through your albums, you should be able to paint it up nicely to match/clash/accent/whatever as well.

The Murmur is running a Zee derailleur with a 11-42 cassette. The chain seems to tension ok in practise but with the shock removed I'm loose on the 11t at top out and can't bottom out in the 42t. You run the same setup, correct? Have you noticed this? Chain is tensioned at sag in the small cog and I come out of the 42 for any aggressive dips while grinding uphill. So no worries? Maybe I'll take this to the FS thread and post a photo or two. Green/black frame with WolfTooth Espresso accents = classy...

Sweet on the Bird fork. I do have the feeling I'll need some bigger tyres than the 2.4 MM / HD I've got.

I'll reply to the Murmur query in the FS thread (although it could go on  MEATengines as it relates to alt drive trains).

More riding on the klunker-ized Kona Humu.  I'm really digging this bike, its fun to be on a SS again and rigid to boot.

Sirius Owners - does anyone have the static HA for a 120mm fork?  (even 140mm would do).  I'm looking to Siriusize my Solaris (angleset it) and seeing if I can get close with a -2.

Using an iphone so not amazingly accurate, but I get around 62.5 deg HTA unsagged on a 140mm [Z1] Sirius.
