The Moxie cracked at the upper weld seam of the DT/HT junction, which is kind of odd. Most likely hypothesis as to why is the amount of standing grinding climbs with a single gear, resulting in repeated twisting of the front end. Combined with the short head tube, this also resulted in the upper headset bearing wearing out really quickly.

Any chance the initial crack looked like this?

Just the paint along the DT / HT junction...

Got in for a look and found this scratch. Had it crack tested with ferro fluid, report was no crack.

Played with some paint, been riding it since with no creaks, but I'm keeping an eye on it. I'll follow your progress.

Velo - that initial pic makes it look really bad.  Did you sand back the paint?

Good to hear it wasn't. It is crying out for either a longer HT or plate gusset.

Since the crack is nested between the tubes, I only noticed it relatively late -- when it started creaking obnoxiously. Sanding away the paint revealed it was already fairly deep, and grew by 2mm on a mild hometrail ride. Similar location to your frame @velocipedestrian, hope yours stays whole for a long time. Mine is a Mx2 btw.

I've been inspecting that area of my over-forked Sirius frames whenever they've needed some wrenching love in the stand. Hopefully they hold up fine, but I'd rather find out early if there is a problem.

My Scrambler scrambling in its natural habitat - crossing the northern end of the Peak District. I just rode across England from Hull to Mold, in Wales, for a bikepacking race this weekend.

Second pic was the start of stripping the paint, I took it back almost as far as the yellow goes now.

I emailed them, and was told they'd never seen a Moxie fail, but maybe that's the kind of data they'd rather keep quiet anyway.

I am finally a hardtail owner again, and I would love to post a picture of it. Anyone have the link or quick explanation of how to get a picture in here? I tried uploading to Imgur but it just gave me the little blue question mark when I tried to get it in here.

This may be old news to some, but if anyone is in the market for a very nice agressive HT, Bicicletta has the SLX versions of the Knolly Tyaughton on sale for $2800. Yes I know their store is in receivership, but the on-line business seems to be going strong still.

I read here on NSMB that someone bought a Tyaughton from them recently and it went fine: https://nsmb.com/forum/forum/gear-4/topic/bicicletta-going-out-of-business-132960/?post=2481366

Used velocipedestrian's trick to get it uploaded finally.

My new Esker Japhy! Aiming for a playful little singlespeed build with 10mm of overforking and high-rise bars. Obviously till in progress, but so stoked to get a ride in if the rain will ever let up.

I have the whisky milhouse carbon bar on here! It’s super comfy, and the reach on the Japhy is on the long end so it brings the bars a fair bit closer which is nice.

One of the Lovelace Bridges - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovelace_Bridges

One of our local trails finished by going over the top and dropping down onto the road.

Enjoy a rare saddle up lean.

We've had a lot of wildfire smoke in the air here, but thankfully no wildfires super close. I've still had friends rolling through town on their summer Cumberland holidays so the tour guiding continues. When asked about the route on Sunday I told them we'd ride a "1 pack" distance. Once we felt like we had smoked a pack of cigarettes we'd head to the brewery!

It's supposed to rain a bit this week which should help with both the smoke and the extremely dry trails. I'm not sad to see September heading our way.
