On the hardtail...mind blown.

I was an insert skeptic, but ya rear wheel of the hardtail is a game changer for sure.

Have you guys tried DH rear tyres? I'm currently on WTB Tough Judges (F+R) on my HT. I've got it down at 19psi for my 94kg lardy ass.

Haven't been able to find a lot of DH 27.5 plus tires. I am running the Rekon EXOs that came on the bike when I bought it, they seem to work okay here in the desert. Adding the insert has made them awesome.

I do run a DH tire on the rear of my Ripmo AF, but I might try a lighter tire combined with Cushcore for that as well.

I've got Rekon EXO (2.6) with Cushcore on the rear (27.5 mullet). It's much better with the insert but I'm always struggling with psi. The typical tracks I ride are a combination of semi rough and rooty but with some fast hard berms. I can get more comfort with lower pressure for the rough straights but still manage to squirm the tyre in corners.

Maybe a wider rim is the answer (currently 30mm id), but I might try a dh tyre for comparison. As long as it doesn't feel too 'wooden'. I've read the new Conti's are good for feel.

You might try the newer EXO+, it's 60 tpi instead of 120 tpi and has a lot more support. I'm running a Cushcore Pro with a i30 rim and it feels solid it the corners.

I've also run the Dual Compound version in the  summer on the rear that uses a 60 tpi casing with good results.

Did someone say year of the Rootdown?! Long time lurker and have been wanting to join the conversation for a while. Here is my rebuilt Primer - this is V3. It is the bike that I always end up coming back to. Hopefully, the pictures post correctly!

Nice one! Is that the stock DeKerf pewter grey or did you go for a different metallic undercoat? Looks good with the pink accents and the 5dev cranks. (but how can you have a Endless chainring without a pink singlespeed cog to match?!?)

This is NSMB, after all... how can a hardtail thread ~ not ~ be a Chromag-heavy thread. I have to get some decent photos of my Surface Voyager to post up (any other Surfaces out there??)

I agree. That's what made the initial run of Moxies so remarkable. That said the number of Docta Hawks that got posted this time last year was pretty unexpected. Rootdowns? Sure. But I didn't expect Doctas to be so common/popular.

Took it out for an easy spin after putting on a different chainring. And taking a break from searching for a Hope 15x110 Conversion kit .

Ha, I was thinking about going that route but the lack of sliding drop-outs steered me away for the time being.

Originally, I had a frame on order with a black tint and black decals but it showed up with no tint and white decals. Wasn't to broken up about it as I don't mind the white. With that being said I wish I had them do away with the decals altogether.

PowellRiviera made the trek over from the SCT to the Big Island to get muddy and take bike leaning against stuff photos. Here is a Docta + Moxie mash up. The rain stayed away and the Cumberland trails were running great. There was the odd spot of death ice on some bridges, but that just added some spice to the mix. After 3hrs of thrashing ourselves in the forest we pumped up the local economy destroying some burritos and beers. All in all a nice day on the BC Coast.

Moxie

Not NS, but I'll contribute for team Moxie here. I lurked this thread last year for awhile before adding this to the stable later last year. Fork started at 160, went to 170 because it was free and the frame could take it. Left it there, because why not? More bb height and slacker/longer doesn't hurt on our rocky, loose trails. It's sort of an absurd bike, but it's so much fun that my Primer FS just gathers dust these days.

Whilst we're on the theme of "Bikes leaning on things"... here's another

This Rootdown is got it going on! Nice on the rigid front end. What 25mm crown race did you source?

Thanks!

It's an "Extended Crown Race for Fat Bike Suspension Fork Clearance";

MTB Tools - Extended Crown Race

They've also got an eBay store that got me a bit of a break on shipping.  I threw on a few coats of black spray paint; they come in raw aluminum.  It was a really tight fit on the Bird rigid fork (tapered steerer) and no issues noted.

It seems so weird to see 60mm stems like that on Mtb’s now days.

When I first hopped on the Rootdown, it felt like my knees were hitting my elbows.  Longer stem, slide the saddle back, I've adapted.  I sketched up the Moxie and should be getting +9 mm on the rear centre and +15 up front.  So the stem will shrink.  Hopefully a similar feel but with the wheels further apart.  Head angle is almost identical although the BB gets ~10 mm lower.  It's a somewhat calculated experiment.  The Rootdown's not for sale yet...

Lots of great hardtails. Keep 'em coming. I changed the name of this thread slightly to be more descriptive of where it's going this year. ;-)
