NSMB - 2022 - Hardtail Thread...
Here’s one I had on my phone.
I quite often get armchair experts telling me this design is impossible and adjusting wheel position will have the pads contact one another once worn but in 2 years of riding this has not proven to be the case.
The simplicity and beauty of the drop outs is what convinced me BTR was what I wanted. I designed this geo based off my Soulcraft fit and just tweaked it around a longer fork and slacker HA. I was pretty careful to avoid an overbuilt / overly stiff rear end.

Heinous - I've faved a few of your BTR previously. It's still lovely. I've not ridden Rotovegas in far too many years....

That's awesome! Love the fork protection, is it functional or aesthetics only?
I put them on as bump stops against the frame up top and then decided to match it up on the bottom. They were good for protection against rocks and with how heavy the monsters are, it's not like another 1lb of weight mattered very much. That fork was originally on a Norco Team DH, back in the day when big bikes were 45-50lbs and we still happily pedaled them up to the top of the trails.

Nah, I haven’t missed a bigger rotor on this bike. I run larger ones my other bikes, but simply haven’t needed to on this.
I love the look of that post mount design, and it is one of the most striking aesthetic features of the few bikes I've seen it on (BTR and Sour are the only ones that come to mind immediately).
Seems like you're suggesting the frame is pretty compliant. I've been wondering about that. Did you ask for that specifically?
Yes. It’s using the chaser tubeset, rather than their more free ride / DJ / enduro HT tubeset.
There ain’t no compliance in dropper posts and I think that’s really the only downside of them in hardtails. Cushcore helps a bit, as does a sensible tubeset. I also went 135mm bolt up as there’s no benefit in a thru axle over a decent bolt up configuration like a Paul.
The only change likely for this bike is some silver cura 4’s, whenever they are readily available again.

Not quite the North Shore here in the midwestern US but I built up this custom Marino to make the most of the trails around here (and the rigid/SS-ness of it keeps everything feeling a bit bigger). FWIW, the wait time was super long but Marino is a great option if you want a custom frame for cheap. Also, yes one of my motivations for going custom was to keep the wheelset from my old-ass IRO singlespeed 29er.
