first real ride last night, new chain is coming today. Super fun bike. It's def long, but descending is hilarously fast. Can't wait to take it to some longer fast flowy descents, Thornhill, SSC etc.
NSMB - 2021 - Hardtail Thread
My Krampus with 120mm Pike and -2 HS. I've done 2 proper rides on it this week and really loving being back ragging a HT. My Murmur is in the shed getting very jealous... I'm now running 70mm rise Ergotec 12 degree back sweep bars with 10mm of spacers under the stem and its feeling good.
got my Carbon Honzo frame and some bits for sale if anyone is interested in building up a fancy HT.
I have the strong desire to replace my Wideangle with a Torrent but there is no stock. Sad face.
My hardtail’s almost done.
The cheap ”Koozer” hub on this wheelset has some problems so I’ve ordered a new freehub body. And I also picked up a spare wheelset of Hope Pro 4 hubs laced to Chromag BA30 rims.
I like the orange so much I’m tempted to keep this wheelset, but I’m expecting the spare wheelset will never be taken off once it’s on.
Oh wow does that orange and green work well.
I finally decided to replace my Chromag Surface with something different. The Surface is such a great, versatile bike but for me there were a few things I wanted such as better tire clearance (big fan of the 29x2.6 format which was a very tight fit on the Surface), a few more mounts for bikepacking trips, sliding dropouts for chainstay length and maybe a bit lighter. A deal came up on a Why Wayward and I'd been thinking about those a while so decided to pull the trigger. I swapped all my parts over, sold off the high-end parts of the Why build and am nearing "zero sum" territory which is nice :)

I managed to get a CSU warranty on my 36, so popped a Smashpot in, dropped it to 130mm and banged it on the singlespeed. So much better tracking that the Sapphire34 (and a load heavier).

Did anyone have a 2017 Chromag Stylus?
- Was it a 142mm rear end?
- How was the standover (size L)?
My trans am has more of a “trail” geometry, perfect for riding to to work. But I’m looking at picking up the stylus to eventually inherit all of the nice parts off my Kona Process. I’d like to be able to ride it very aggressively.

After getting my G1 and riding a bike that fit properly my HonzoST wasn't cutting it any more. It felt tiny! As luck would have it I sold an old frame and set out to get new steel hardtail that would hopefully fit and compliment my G1.
The sale of the frame didn't allow for the cost of a custom built frame. So, the Pole Taival was the closest to the numbers I thought I wanted.
I moved almost everything from my HonzoST to this frame. I needed to get a new dropper because the seat tube is 30.9 instead of the 31.6 on the Honzo. I also went matchy-matchy highlights with the housing/hose!

I had a 2017, the black with chrome decals. It was boost but I wouldn't assume. I think 2017 was the first year of boost for a lot of bikes so maybe could go either way.
Mine was an M/L and standover was fine, buy I specifically avoided the L because the seat tube was a lot longer, which I'm definitely not a fan of on that type of bike.
The latest stylus frame have about 30mm shorter seat tubes and I imagine correspondingly better standover. I'm 5'11" fwiw
Looking at https://chromagbikes.com/pages/bike-archive they revised the Stylus in 2016 and 2019, that's not to say they didn't change the spacing between those times. Should be relatively easy to measure the spacing.
I just finished building my new hardtail, a Canfield Nimble 9. I bought it to complete my Ripmo which is build on the burly side... I only have one ride so far but it's good to ride a hardtail again (last one was a Kona with manitou or marzocchi fork maybe 15 years ago...). It really has a compliant ride even with tires on the smaller side (Dissector 2.4/Rekon 2.4). I had to deal with Canfield a few time and they responded to my mails in less than 2 hours every time. Really amazing consumer service...
