What're you all using for chainstay protection?
NSMB - 2021 - Hardtail Thread
Can't really see it that well in this pic but it's the only pic i have of this bike.
I bought some 3mm Kydex (heat moldable plastic commonly used for gun and knife holsters) online and cut / molded it to my chainstay and have it held on by double sided tape. It works great, after this bike I had one on my Darkside and my M9, and on the M9 I had one inside the seatstay and on the BB / Down tube.
It was like 15 bucks for a 12x12 sheet or something and I got 3 bikes worth out of it. It's great stuff.
Treated the Chromag to a new saddle and grips. Saddle is standard Trailmaster and grips are SDG Thrice. Not used those grips before and I'm super fussy about diameter, clamps and what not with grips due to hand issues but initial ride was positive.
I'm looking at full suspension frames at the moment and most of the parts will get shifted over when I decide what I want and can actually get hold of one, so this will be it's final season probably. It's done everything I have asked of it and doesn't owe me anything after 5 years.

I think the Chromag chainstay protectors (I have one of those) would fit a lot of steel bikes.
Seems ok, keeps the paint where it belongs.

Yah like in the old days I used to cut strips out of a sheet of that ribbed rubber matting for nailing to stairs for mudflaps on my road bikes. Though yours more elegant looks professional.
How you likin' that bike? I have one model year newer than yours almost finished building.

gee, look at that...Thanks! They make those standard when you buy the bike, now. All they gotta' do is start including the seat clamp and they'll be a real bike company.

I did that on a 2005 Reign fork was 454. Sat so high up I got nose bleeds. Woulda' changing lowers changed that at all? Prolly should have used an angleset.

I absolutely love it.
I don't ride it much lately because due to the availability of parts I want to keep 1 bike in super good condition so if I have a tricky mechanical on one bike I will have the other as backup :)
The only issue is that it's too small for me. Miscommunication between myself, a buddy, and an NRG CS agent, ultimately nobodies fault but my own. My buddy is about 3 inches taller than me and rides a large, I rode his around and it was too big so I thought I would get the next size down which I thought was medium. I didn't realize that Chromag made Med/Lrg size. So when I called and was talking to the NRG guy I told him that I was on the large and that I thought it was too big, he agreed I should size down, so I ordered the medium from him not realizing there was the M/L.
I've been considering selling it to replace with a hard tail that fits, but I've had a shit load of good times and major progression (technically and mentally) on this bike so I feel kinda emotionally attached to it lol

Buy this colour in m/l and swap parts you'll hardly even notice the pain of separation....

I bumped the travel on the Smashpot down to 150mm to keep it closer to stock height. Already have a -2* angleset installed

How do you like it? I have mulleted a few bikes but never with the 2deg angleset that makes the whole ting work better.

Super nice looking rig. Did you design it around 150mm fork? I would be interested to hear how it rides. Is it for shore style riding mainly?
