A while back we were talking about the lack of bashguard options for a Chromag Rootdown due to the lack of ISCG tabs and the PF BB. Wolf Tooth has come out with one that should work with a lot of popular cranks.

It's £9000 which is closer to $15k CAD. Which sure is a lot for a product that comes out a mould hung with painted stock parts. You could piece together a fully custom frame in just about any material and hang It with exactly every part you've ever wanted for less. I guess this is a effective statement for someone with more money than imagination but a need for brand recognition.

It would be in jolly Olde England, why that is anyone's guess? Duty charges? The yeti site is saying 9900 USD. If I had time it would be fun to break down the cost on the components. I'm guessing the frame will come in at $5,000-$6,000?

Did it, all in USD, provided closest comparables when exact aftermarket wasn't available. Frame price is $2,822.13 with all components at MRSP and no additional cost for colour customization. I didn't factor anything in for cables and housing (minimal as AXS).

Good job on the in-depth analysis but it doesn’t matter IMO-

A Yeti ARC without a looptail is worthless.  Particularly if you want that nostalgic dentist money.

I agree. Other than the custom colors there is very little to that bike that makes me think 1993 Miles and Missy...

FTW does custom builds - i bet he'd build you a modern looptail - for the right price.

So we're back to the future again. Happy I've stuck with my 980 crank and 104 bash.

New Bike Day!

It feels light, even with cushcore front and back. The lightish rubber probably helps. Super nimble and gets up on the back wheel like nobody's business. Fast becoming my favorite bike of all time.

thanks Vik. I've had lots of hardtails and this one is the most fun hands down. It rides like it has small wheels and shorter travel than it does.

How'd your trip to Port Albert and sunshine coast go?

We are living in a good time if you like hardtails. A bunch of nice designs to select from. Enjoy the Primer looks rad. I'm building up a Cotic BFeMAX for my winter bike. Should be rolling soon. Just waiting on a couple things.

SC Coast Loop tour was a lot of fun. Saw some great scenery. Demolished so much food. I was riding strong. I did end up with an unfortunate mechanical [rock + derailleur + spokes = bike that rolled, but no pedaling] that required about 20K of pushing and 20K of hitchhiking to get to a LBS to get fixed, but we were riding fast enough that I got my bike fixed and got done a day early. In ~30 years of bike touring that was one of my few and my worst mechanical. So I can't be too mad about it.

@RAHrider Beautiful bike. Love the muted colour!

Have you ridden a Rootdown? I'm just wondering how it compares to the Primer.

Vik, that's an incredible loop. Well done. And that cotic looks 👌.  I'll be interested to hear your ride impression.

Gdharries, I tried a rootdown once before I bought this one. According to Sean at chromag, the tubeset is slightly thinner on the primer. I feel like I can feel it, but I probably can't. It could be the build but I kind of doubt it as they were pretty similar. Its probably just the lighter tires I have on this one right now. The primer seems more lively and wants to flick around a bit more. I find myself riding it more playfully than the rootdown. Again, maybe just the tires?

I have only sold one hardtail frame ever, the rest I either still have or have broken. I figure the Canadian one will probably last longer and if I'm going to keep it till it brakes I might as well love it.

They are  good idea but I hate having to remove my crank to change chainrings. I rack up a lot of km and change them often. I switched to the OneUp Swich DM system for this very reason.

I would only bother with this WT bash if there was no other bashguard option. So I'm not planning on getting one myself. A set of ISCG tabs + taco bash is the best solution.
