Yes. From what I can tell with the updates to the 2020 Rootdown it’s the same as the primer from 2019+. The primer was slightly tweaked last model year.

My understanding is they tweek the Canadian models and roll down the changes to Taiwan. Currently I couldn't tell you the difference between the two.

So, would anyone here actually pay double for a Canadian made chromag?

So here is V2. Slightly adjusted geometry and bigger tubes. It took a second try to get it perfect.

Once we are up to ~$2K CAD for a hardtail I'll just get a custom frame made. Then I can skip the PF BB, get ISCG tabs, sliders and adjust the geo to suit.

The Daambuilt hardtail I built last year is my favourite bike: https://www.daambuilt.com/mountain-bike-hardtail

Looks great enjoy it! Prototyping is a great way to get an amazing bike. :-)

That's a really good point. Rootdown it is.

I didn't want to spend 2K anyways.

The rootdown? Unfortunately sold out but should be here in 2020 sometime (they say 2 months) so I can post in this thread when it finally comes. I did take out a 2019 large for a couple of rides last week, what an incredible bike! I get why so many people like them so much. Really solid riding, not too long. Feels nimble yet stable. Not too bad to get on its back wheel either. You sold your chromag already?

Can you comment on how stiff or flexible the frame felt?

Yup I can. Stiff enough. Not uncomfortable. Confident pushing it but not harsh at all. It has a more dampened feel than my lynskey but not as springy. It is a little dead feeling when pedaling IMO,  but not bad and I find all modern chromo frames feel that way.

A lot of the custom builders around here are so fixated on little head tubes and really short rear ends so I kind of had to go further afield to get what I wanted.

I'm all for buying production bikes if you can get what you want from them, but if you are going custom it makes no sense to compromise unless what you is not technically feasible. I'm surprised a local builder wouldn't be happy to build with a taller HT and longer CS....those requests don't add any technical/manufacturing challenges to the frame....the actually make it easier to build in some respects. Regardless I'm glad you got what you were looking for. :-)

What dimensions did you go with (and how tall are you) out of interest?

I'm 6'6".

Reach: 520, sta: 76', hta: 63', cs: 450, drop: 55, head tube: 150. Wheelbase is a bit over 1300. Plus vintage 180mm XTR cranks. So far it's just right. I since dropped the stem and still feel like I'm sitting a bit high with that 35mm rise bar so I'm due an experiment around that. The whole bike feels solid and torsionally stable, which is impressive for ti on a bike this long. It really is true that good fit/geometry>suspension.

Your bike is so big I thought it was 27.5's at first glance. It's awesome that for the first time you are lowering your bars - I know the feeling. Even on an XL at just 6'2" my bar is 20mm rise and my stem is 15mm above the headset and I still have a 5-7 cm drop to the bars from my saddle. I can't imagine my saddle 4" higher than it is already.
