I'm still riding this ti monster. Turns out a 77' static STA/ 62.5' HTA Is just fine. I like riding It just as much as my big bike. For a moment there I thought I should convert It to singlespeed but can't quite bring myself to do It.

Tell me more. What travel fork, chainstay length, what wheel size and tire width.

I am thinking of getting a Marino make with similar crazy specs. 440 reach, 63ha, 76sa, 420cs, 400seat tube, 110 head tube, -38 BB drop

Too worried you're going to break it?! Only reason I can think of not to SS it with those beauty dropouts all ready to go.

This thing makes my palms sweaty. It doesn’t have the sliding drops though a la Honzo for running single speed!? Too bad.

Guessing it’s not a 44mm headtube but rather the older 34mm? Must know more!!!

No sliding dropouts, and a 34mm headtube are correct.

I do have another Kona Steely frame with a pike 454 coil u-turn that I’m planning to build into a commuter that’s tough enough to ride Burnaby mountain trails on.

Based on where I work, I ride SFU a fair bit. I barely make it up Cardiac Hill with gears. I can see myself walking more if I had a single-speed setup. I’ve walked my single-speed Kona Cowan up Cardiac Hill quite a few times, but it’s geared for dirt jumps.

575mm fork (160mm travel), 440mm chainstay, 29, 2.4/2.5 EXO+ tires, 55mm drop.

Bikes are made to be ridden! And broken! But what If I'm just scared?

Rachid why you no line up tire logo's with valve stems? I thought you were a details man? :)

The blue on the Primer looks great with the Fox fork, I don't think it would look as good with an all black fork.

I agree and you're right, I'll be more detail oriented with my next set of tires.

I'd love to get my hands on the steely that came the year after the blue one, could also accommodate a tapered steer tube. Raw steel finish with brass brazed bosses and cable guides I believe, similar to the '16 Honzo.

Hey man, thanks. I love it at 130mm, it's pretty much perfect for what I use it for now.

When the Surface was my only bike (for 3 years basically) and I was trying to hang with the guys on bigger bikes, and I'm talking good riders on Nomads and Yeti SB150's, I needed everything I could get. The Fox 36 at 150mm was great for smashing like that but having the Smuggler for that stuff now (and still not keeping up lol), this is where the Surface shines for sure. It can still handle most everything but it's noticeably better on steeper climbs, and it just feels right.

130mm is a nice amount of travel for a "do it all" HT.

My Krampus HT is no longer... its now has a rigid fork as the Pike went onto the Starling Murmur I got in April last year.  I do miss it but would rather have two very different bikes than just one.

Ohh la la, hardtail thread. Here's my new chromag surface :-)

This is me for this season or less, hopefully. I'm trying to transition to FS bike (again) this year, I think I've finally found the right bike to do it.

So my Surface has been de-specced and built up with utilitarian parts. It has been surprisingly difficult to sell this winter, but hoping the Spring/Summer season will help her find a new loving owner.

My little guy is just over 2 and mayand I've been considering putting one on my WideAngle to do some light blasting around the Stanly park paths with the kiddo.
