Well I'm a good few rides in now and I'm smitten.
The frame in combination with the cranks exhibits a stiffer feel than my Surface under power. I can't say what it is specifically but the stays on this frame are larger than my previous frame so maybe that's it. Either way the bike feels really good when getting up a technical climb.
The great news is the my geo is spot on where I wanted it. The stack, reach, head angle, it all feels really natural and confidence inspiring. That low stand over makes the bike feel so nimble under you in the steeps and easy to make some fun shapes on. You can really lean into the fork in the turns and carve so sweetly around the twisty stuff. The bike is lively, comfortable and very shreddy. Maybe there's something to the titanium spring. It certainly feels smooth (for a hardtail) and super quiet too.
My first rides on the bike were in the unfamiliar terrain of Moab, but since I got back I've got in a load of rides on my more familiar local stuff so I have a good baseline now. Steel is real for sure, but ti is slightly sweeter.
Kudos to Brian Earle for tipping me off on the Terrain Control Industries bar and stem. The stem looks sick and in combination with the bar is a very comfortable ride. I like the 10 degree back sweep and will probably keep the bar at it's full width.

Pretty neat. It's tough though, I love chromag and my rootdown, but for me I'm not sure the BC made frames make sense. I'd feel like I'd need to take a pretty close look at Naked bikes before taking that plunge.
But still, pretty awesome.

So here it is. None of these new bikes are quite big enough.
Titanium. 535mm reach. 500mm seat tube at 77.5'. 63' head angle. Adjustable chainstays from 435-445 with the possibility of singlespeed. Monster.

My Chromag is almost laughably short
Hardtail build that I finished up in May. Was going for the klunkerish look with double top tubes, that and I didn't have any regular top tube sized material on-hand when I built it. Some retro paint with the splatter.

Of course it's custom. Nobody is making a bike like this stock or I would have bought it. Actually the Pole HT is pretty close but at that price it made more sense to do it my way. I wasn't at all happy with my Evolink's engineering or finish so I wasn't keen to give them any more money. I'm not convinced they have any idea what they're doing.
The Chromag Doctahawk is close but mine has 10mm more reach, the option of 10mm more chainstay, singlespeedability and a proportional head tube length. I don't believe in buying bikes and the first thing I do is max out all the settings and put 3cm of spacers under my stem. I don't see why just because I'm 6'6" I shouldn't enjoy a slammed 35mm stem as well. If you're tall and want a bike that isn't an afterthought of the bigger brands with compromised ergonomics you need to take matters into your own hands.
