NSMB - 2016 - Hardtail Thread

Added a few upgrades to my Stylus. Funnest bike I've ever built up. No idea on weight and don't really care!

Stylus M/L frame
Marzocchi 350 NCR Ti
XT wheels
Saint brakes and rotors
Saint derailleur, XT shifters (LH modded for dropper)
Sunrace 11-42 cassette, KMC chain
XTR cranks, 32t oval ring, Nukeproof nylon pedals
Chromag bar, stem, grips, seat, clamp
Giant 150mm dropper
Minion DHF/Purgatory Grid

That Stylus looks really great! Nice.

I am thinking about getting mine powdercoated in Kawasaki or Kelly Racing green, or maybe some really loud hi-viz colour. The originally black finish is flaking at some places and I do not want that much rust, hence powdercoating which should last I think.

I would do the head tube in high viz colour and camoflage for the rest.

But…I'm not right in the head.

Mic: I had a vintage Brodie Catalyst that I had powder coated Arctic Cat green. They had to lay down a white base coat [HTML_REMOVED] then the technicolour green which resulted in a VERY thick coat. The welds were no longer discernible, [HTML_REMOVED] it looked less than stellar. They did the stem in 1 coat gloss black which was really thin [HTML_REMOVED] looked just like paint! Talk to your powdercoater before shelling out the bucks.

I second this. I had a frame done that looked like garbage after powder coat because it was so thick. That may be good for some applications, but for bikes it looks terrible and I think it may have contributed to premature failure of the powdercoat.

Wow. Had not thought about the thickness of the powdercoat at all. Thanks a lot for putting that onto my radar. I definitely ask the guy first.

Fully custom frame, built by Trulove. Slacker by 2.5D and lower by 1/2" from stock.

I have been dealing with back and knee injuries for the last 2 seasons and unfortunately can't handle riding a hardtail without suffering for it. So this is now regrettably for sale.

Checking Pinkbike buy and sell lots lately. See lots of newer Stylus frames getting flipped. But no one sells off the older versions.

So the finance committee oops I mean the wife says it's okay to get replacement for the stole bike. But must keep costs down. Hmm.. do I go with the Deedar or the 4550b? Keeping in mind replacing the Stylus for now.

Advantage to the 4560b, don't need a new rear wheel as can use the rear wheels I have. Already have a fork to fit.
