NSMB - 2016 - Hardtail Thread
Question for the hardtail aficionados: Looking for a burly STEEL hardtail w/26" wheels. Chromag has some leftover/demo 26" wheeled Stylus frames which look like what I am after. Any other STEEL hardtail long travel frame I should consider?
PS: Just to make it difficult, 31.6 seat post [HTML_REMOVED] threaded BB too!

They smartened up an' put Schwalbe Knobby Nics on current production models. Gonna set it up tubeless, which should save about a pound and a half of bike fat right from the get go

Coming within 3 years. sta 80, hta 60. On a 29+er with 180mm front and rear. Oh wait, this is a hardtail thread. Never mind the rear comment.

Haha thanks, it was a little daunting to choose any colour I wanted so I'm stoked it came out as well as it did.
That's what everyone says but single speed really isn't that bad. Climbing is actually super fun. It's incredibly efficient on the hardtail and completely silent. It's also really good training as you can't pedal in/out of anything so you don't want to screw up corners. Trust me it's way easier than it seems.

My antiquated Rootdown shod with 27.5*2.8. Most parts swapped from my Honzo which was an awesome ride for me but I'm hoping the Rooty will be a bit more engaging all around, like my Aperture was. Missing the stand over of the Honzo though, in a M/L size now to get similar reach of the M Honzo.

Whoa whoa whoa. Back this up. WTF. Is that an original rootdown, first generation with the old school QR dropouts and steel derailleur hanger? And you've got a 27.5x2.8 tire crammed in there? Colour me intrigued. Colour me very intrigued.

Quite honestly I love this bike. I find the geo perfect for what I do.

No its the latest one before being discontinued, 12*142 modular dropout and stealth routing.
Lots of tread clearance even with 2.8. But on the tight side at the sidewall where the yokel is, maybe 2-3mm or so, which I'm comfortable with. I run 29mm internal width rims so a 35mm may make things less comfortable. Pleasant surprise for me since I had read mostly online that this would not work, but I was prepared to run the Rooty strictly 29 if needed
Thanks. Good to know. Half tempted to try it myself but for my riding the 29x2.3 is working well. I imagine your bottom bracket is a smidge lower with the 27.5x2.8. :idea:
