The Mavic is a much higher quality rim and KoF's experience is the status quo for that product.
I ran them on my 26" hardtail for years and years with the same results: bomb proof, straight, not particularly light.
Guess what…getting the spokes and nipples (brass) fixed was waaaaaay cheaper than getting the Mavic rim laced up.
So I get a new rear wheel for serious abuse. There is one from a company called Veltec that has been designed from the ground up for DH and FR type of riding, can get it for a qr, and only 10 bucks more than if I had gotten the Mavic rim.
Advantage - two types of rear wheels for different terrain.
