2013 Kona Explosif

Love this bike.
27.5 wheels and 68 HT, it rips.
The raw steel finish looks great.

Upgrades:
- Tires: Maxxis HR II 3C
- Cockpit: Low rise 780mm bar. 60mm stem

What size is that Explosif?

I was thinking of getting one but I am having trouble finding one that will fit.

I am slightly hesitant about pressfit BB, but I'd like to think that Surly knows what they're doing.

for serious? phew! the want is gone

Yeah but it checks all the other boxes. I'd go for the Chromag but max tire size is too small, especially for a monster such as myself.

Love it. Might be my next bike if I end up in Alberta. I am slightly hesitant about pressfit BB, but I'd like to think that Surly knows what they're doing.

If you don't, WHO WILL?

I am unworried about the BB, personally. It's their own BB in their own frame, designed as a system.

What size is yours? And are you going to keep the rigid fork or go for a Bluto?

I'm 6ft 1 on a 19" (2014) and it's fine.
You can't go wrong with this bike. Period. Upgrade the fork and it gets even better…..

16"- I am ~5'9" but have short legs, so standover is an issue..especially in snow!

Going to wait and see in the fork department. Big issue with Bluto for me is it doesn't work at all below -10, without modifications.
Plus this thing was expensive enough as it is!!

Seem as more options get introduced it confuses people more.

Surly is calling it "PF41".

Not designed by them as a system.

It's an adaption / rename of the Shimano BB86, BB90, BB92.

The ID spec for the bb on a Shimano system is 41mm. Shimano uses the nominal shell width in the nomenclature of their system. Aftermarket supplies have taken to using the shell ID in their name I assume to not infringe on using the Shimano name.

I think Surly would be further ahead to just say they've decided to use the Shimano spec in their press fit bb's.

What I meant was it is their frame, machined for their BB, not that it is something magical and new.
Anyhow, we'll see if it falls out or creaks or whatever. Hope not. That would dampen the fun considerably.
