Mine is nearly finished. Only thing I want to change, purely for looks, is the fork to a black 2013 36 Float :)

Just wanted to try it out and see how well the XX1 deraileur alone would hold the chain. Running a top guide now and it's mint.

Interesting to note, the Hans Dampf on a 26" Carbon Haven is near identical to that Neo Moto 2.3 in that review you linked (I'm going to measure it tomorrow to be sure). So I dunno, the 650b advantage might only be there if you use a proper meaty tire…if you typically run a big 26" tire

I read (i can't remember where) that Pacenti deliberately made the sidewalls of his tires shorter to encourage more cross compatibility.

So a Schwalbe 2.3 650 would have a much different internal volume than a Pacenti 2.3 650, so very different ride.

Oh man this thread is giving me teh bonerz.

I'm really loving the new Spitfire. I kind of still hold a grudge towards Banshee because it seems it took them forever to resolve the bushings issue but hot damn maybe it's because they just wanted to do it right (ie the Spitfire V2.) So the sour taste in my mouth is sweetening.

I once had a hate on for VW after some reliability issues with previous cars but guess what I'm driving now? Yeah…a fucking VW. ;)

Only 10 speeds and unfashionably small wheels, but there will be plenty of fun to be had. I was really hoping to see a number under 30lbs, but 30.76 is where she sits. For coil front and rear, big rubber, 4 pot brakes and dropper post I think it's doing pretty well weight wise.

Some highlights are:
Angleset at -1.5D and Push Industries custom link.
King hubs on carbon rims
XTR Trail levers on Saint 4 pot calipers. 200mm rotor front and 180mm rear.
MRP Bling Ring 30T, lopes guide, XO carbon cranks 11-36T cassette.

The only other change I'm considering is a Reverb Stealth with 150mm drop to get an extra inch. Who doesn't want an extra inch? Requires punching a hole in my frame, but it's been done and I'm not afraid :) http://www.vitalmtb.com/community/Mihai,359/setup,19302

you mean he made the tire a bit smaller volume so people would be able to try 650b on their high-clearance 26" frames? interesting. i'm sure there is one, but i don't see the point of running a bigger wheel if it means having to use a smaller volume tire…

i have some 650b dropouts coming with my spitfire frame. hoping to build up a set of wheels once the bike fund re-loams a bit. by all accounts my fox 36's arch will clear a 650b wheel, even with a high volume tire, no problem. clearance at the bottom of the crown isn't a given, but like all good floats mine never uses the last 3/4" of travel, so i think i'll be fine ;)

For the comments on 26" vs 27.5" tire sizing, you need to compare apples to apples. It's no use comparing a 26" 2.4 Continental Trail King to a 27.5" 2.25 Ardent. Different casing sizes. Then there is rim width to be considered.

The difference between identical setups is approx. 1.3-1.4"

Have you been in the MTBR 650b forum? Pointless sums up most of the stuff in there.

Still need to trim housing and such.

edit: threw on my own wheelset(721, hope pro 2 evo, straight gauge spokes), weighs tad bit more than stock wheelset

They are sharp looking bikes and killer spec for the price. Nice buy.

is going big on a bike the only way to get you stoked on the sport? what happened to riding with your bros, travelling, and riding unique places, to get people stoked on riding?

fines are useless. there needs to be more punches to the throat.
