All you guys with 30t rings, how are you finding them on faster descents?
NSMB - 2013 - Enduro/Trail Bike Build thread
lame if you have to pedal. great if you don't.
lousy once you hit a fast road.
I have a 28-10 top gear right now and it's fine. I do end up using the top gear but never really needing more. Once I'm going that fast it's time to pump anyway. This includes Whistler (28-10 is a great A-Line gear). 30-11 is pretty similar. It's nice to be getting use out of all the gears, not just the middle bunch.
Reason I ask is I tried a 32t on my DH bike before and spun out at whistler constantly, I now use a 38t.
I am afraid if I downsize my bike I will need the 30t to climb, but don't want to change rings for a whistler trip. I guess I'll just have to pump and flow more than pedal.
Not that it is of much public interest. But as a follow-up to my previous post about the Specialized 2014 AM+Enduro bikes, I just ordered a 2014 Enduro Expert Carbon in the 26" variant.
I went to Eurobike last week and at the beginning was pretty much convinced that ordering a 6000$ 26" bike was not a great long-term investion, because of all the 650B hype in the media.
But after talking to Schwalbe, Continental, Maxxis and even Michelin - I have no worries about future tire availability for the 26inch format.
While there are many 650B bikes, most companies still have a lot of 26inch bikes. Some don´t even have 650B. And every industry person knows, that there are a LOT of 26inch bikes in the market, who still need spare parts.
Also - all good Enduro forks I looked at (especially the new ones) still come in 26 AND 650b.
Don´t want to start a new 650b flamewar. Just reporting.
Bottom line: Just buy what you like best. No one is going to take away either of the three wheel sizes for the next five years or so…
I never run out of gearing going up or down with my 22/36 combo up front and an 11-36 spread out back.
Oh wait…nevermind ;)
but my bike is 4 oz lighter than yours w/o a front derailleur
Are you guys still bitching about what other people choose to run on their bikes?
Being cheap is OK. Being a clueless sanctimonious condescending douchebag is just Vlad's MO.
Upgraded from my 13 year old aluminum hardtail frame to this 2009 Pitch frame. No idea how much it weighs but it is SO much fun to ride and I think it looks damn good to boot.

did Maxxis mention any new 650b tires coming for 2014? The selection right now is such crap

Only have the funds for a single bike…or my kid. My wife likes the kid more.
