NSMB - 2012 Light DH Bike Build Off 7"+

Light DH bikes seem to be the theme nowadays. Sub 36lb 8" travel bikes can be bought off the shelf.

2011 saw the debut of several carbon DH frames that have we well accepted by riders. So post up your rig whether it is made of plastic, aluminum or unobtanium.

Post up the bike you are running and the weight regardless of whether you are a contender or not. Build it, weigh it and take a photo to post for this thread.

If you can, snap a picture of the bike clearly showing the weight on a scale or people will call your bluff.

Must be a rideable bike with:

• 15+ posts minimum of NSMB board activity
• 7" minimum rear wheel travel and 7" minimum front wheel travel
• disclosure of tire type(Dual or Single Ply)

At some point during 2011 the BB was re-fomatted and all the pictures I had in order were deleted from the 1st post.

I'm not going to scour 1,000s of posts to figure out who's ride is what.

Just snap a shot and post it up. I have a few tweaks to make to my rides that will put 2 of my bikes under 30lbs.

OK, I'll play…. 2011 Intense Uzzi, 7.5" rear travel, 7" front. Tires are 1.5 ply Muddy Mary's… weight is currently about 34.3 lbs. Scale shot soon.

Hey Dean maybe you should make the DH bike thread 8"+. Guys running 888's can't compete with guys running single crown Fox's, just a thought.

Given that even the smallest/lightest pro women still race DH on dual-crown forks it probably shouldn't qualify as a DH bike if it has a single crown (that's what the 7" AM/FR category is for?)

I guess you could make the same argument about tire choice as well (even the biggest weight weenie racers aren't running 1.5 ply tires?)

I agree with above. Perhaps a "mini-DH" category is needed for the single crown bikes that are bigger than the AM/FR bikes but smaller than DH.

AM/FR 4-6.5"
Mini DH 7"
DH 8"+

Agreed. By the current definitions I could almost put my AM bike in here for contention, but I'm sure as hell not going to race DH on it.

If it doesn't have a DC fork, it's not a full DH bike.

What about a 'people who do dull jobs but earn shit loads of money' category? If I sold cell phones on commission I'd probably be able to afford a sick bike, but I'd also shoot myself in the face. I don't see how people in the industry are at an advantage.

Some do, most buy what is reliable and what works, and the others buy what they can afford.
