Wow. I've seen so few (any????) pics of Giants in these threads I'd come to believe owning one was so uncool peeps were too ashamed to admit to owning one. :P
Might have to post an update picture of mine………..:o

Nice choice Todd! (Pink Grips eh? The bike was too sleek looking?)
Pick up the 36t ratchet upgrade for the hubs if you haven't already. The more then 2x engagement points (for a very small increase of drag) is notable in tech situations (especially climbing).
Stay on top of the spoke tension and you will be rewarded with super light, laterally stiff, fast rolling, durable wheels. Let it slide and you will be a spoke breaking machine (and the DT straight-pull Tri-Con spokes aren't cheap).

the pink grips are a shoutout to my pink rearend on the hustler! thanks for the tip on the ratchet upgrade, will look into that. I'm coming from crossmax sx's on the hustler, so used to pricey spoke replacement, wheel durability is more important to me though and I've got first hand info from a few people who ride hard that these wheels deliver a good ride. looking forward to getting it dirty in a couple weeks….still lots of snow to shred here!
Dont think I qualify since I don't have enough post but here you go away.

I need to get this for both my 350 and 240s
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

If your bike is equipped with DT star-ratchet hubs it's absolutely the best upgrade you can get for under $50.
As an added bonus, if you can change a bottom bracket or brake pads then you have the technical skills and tools to do the swap yourself.

Do the hubs of the E2200 wheel set qualify for this upgrade? They are basically 340's I think. The wheels are now called E2000's? Edit: I did some research and found out the hubs are a two pawl design. Quote: E2200 features a DT Swiss 370 hub with a two pawl design. Can I still make the upgrade?
i love the simplicity and elegance of the star ratchet design. don't mind the noise either - which is odd because the noise of kings used to drive me nuts. i just rebuilt and old hayes-branded hugi hub and realized you have to pull the "freehub" off to lace the spokes :dizzy: is the upgraded star ratchet louder? i'm due a new rear 240 on warranty, so even though i've never felt limited by having few engagement points i guess i might as well give it a shot (and no, kof, you can't put star ratchets into a hub using a freehub/pawls)

yes. i've got a set of dt/hugi hubs from 2001 that are still going strong after a series of dh [HTML_REMOVED] freeride bikes. stupid easy tool free service (yank off freewheel), and knarley sound as bonuses. i've got vintage high ramp low engagement ratchets that are super angry. love it.

Bummer, those are out of stock…

I'm afraid your are SOL. The Star-Ratchet design is completely different in functionality to the 2-pawl system.
…
As an added negative, the DT 2-Pawl hubs -in my experience- do not do justice to DT's reputation for reliability.
In addition to the low engagement points and loads born on the two pawls the freehub body itself is made of a steel sleeve inside an alloy sleeve and the two have been knowning to separate (it feels like your freehub is slipping under load).

The volume doesn't really change, but the sound is quite different.

Drew, just to confirm, 340s are star ratchet but not compatible with the 36 point system, correct? (Researched and filed under "no" a while ago.)
That one actually is a "it depends"
The 340 is/was (you don't really see them anymore… just 240 [HTML_REMOVED] 350) the Swiss made version of the 350 (essentially the same hub).
The older 340 and 350 hubs have a steel hub axle with a smaller diameter. The ratchets for these hubs have a smaller ID and aren't compatible with the upgrade ratchets.
Most the 350 hubs we see (and a few of the later 340 hubs) use an alloy axle (a-la 240s) and these hubs are compatible with the 36t upgrade.
I don't know any way to tell if yours will work without opening it up.

Are there any shops on the North Shore that carry the DT 36-T star-ratchet upgrade kit?
