NSMB - 2012 Light AM/FR bike build off 4-7"

Lightest AM /FR full suspension bike wins bragging rights. 2011 saw a little CARBON and a few standout rigs. I'm thinking 2012 is the year. Strong, light rigs built to slay singletrack.

Lets see the personal build of your ride. Regardless of the weight, post up your ride and take a scale shot. If you are going to state a weight, get a picture of the bike clearly showing the weight on a scale or people will call your bluff.

For bragging rights it must be a rideable bike with the following:

  • 4-7" front wheel travel and 4-7" rear wheel travel
  • 2.2" minimum tire width (specify dual/single/UST ply)
  • specify 9mm, 15mm or 20mm front axle
  • full leg extension seat-post or a telescopic (must be able to realistically climb on the bike)
  • should an active NSMB board member with at least 15 posts

First version of my 2012 entry: Element MSL, but with a more AM worthy build.

Original bike was this (it's 26.02lbs…at this angle, it looks like 25)

Revised bike is this:

Changes inc.
- 140mm Marzocchi 44 RC3 Ti
- XTR wheelset with wider rim width
- 2.4 Conti X-King / Mtn Kings with heavier protection sidewall.
- Carbon bashguard
- Shimano Pro "Vanderham" bar for extra width
- 50mm Thomson stem

Geo is 13" BB height, 68 HT angle.

I like them.. functions similar to the tube attached to the fork, but this one works better with the travel adjust, and covers the seals and stanchions too..

It's a Mucky Nutz Bender Fender, and it works really awesome. Does the same thing as the ghetto tube from the crown to arch, but it looks cleaner, and keeps a lot of mud off the stanchions and wipers.

Same as last year; "somewhere around 33-34lbs".

With the 66RC3 on the front it's really a mini-dh type bike; absolutely rips on the descents but it's a bit too slack for technical climbing. I'm thinking of swapping on a 180mm Talas this spring so I can keep the same feel but drop the travel when I want to climb.

How much was the shipping from the UK? I wonder if a group order would save much. I think I'd be in for 2.

There's a slightly heftier (22g instead of 16g) thicker version that's a little more sturdy as well.
