i had that concern too. if it existed i'd have my heart set on a racelight, sakura/kamui version of the surface, because i could see the weight and capability of an am 29er chromag being pretty similar to my 6" bike. one of the reasons i'm not totally gutted not to have bought one in the fall

Did you ever think of a sakura/kamui with 650b wheels? 26" wheels with long travel fork for whistler/shore and 650b wheels with short travel fork for xc/trail stuff. Two bikes in one and all the numbers work pretty much perfectly. In my eyes that's still the ultimate hardtail bike for these parts.

1990…

ya ya Tomac ran drops back in the day because of his road back ground. Lucky he does not do it now or the band wagon would begin.

only 35 but still beat the 30-39 BC cup Champion 4 out of 6 races

Drop bars can make sense, just not in BC. Anyway I plan to have something noteworthy to add to this thread this year, thanks to a nice salary for the first time ever!

I jumped on that early bandwagon with my Team Moron / Marin. I vaguely remember it was good for climbing and bunny hopping, but pretty useless for everything else.

(Being pedantic, but didn't Tomac switch to drops due to him taking up pro road racing as he wanted his MTB and road bike to have the same riding position? He never had drops on his MTB earlier in his career i.e. when he rode for Mongoose :nerd:)

Yeah, you should have sprung for the Black Flags. More fitting for your bike.

yellow stans tape.

yeah, they have Stan's BST, so you just need tape.

They claim the wheelset is 1799g, all over the place.

what's that, no tape, no front hub adapters, no valves.

come on…

the 26" is pretty much bang on what they claimed. They should come pre taped too. Are yours OEM?

Hasn't arrived just yet, but getting same as this…

Tubeless and some other tweaks should keep the weight sub 27.
